Fuel Consumption Since PPP
#2
"am I going mad?"
nope, more torque means you should be able to tootle around in a lower gear, therefore better fuel consumption, I had mine fitted this week but haven't done many miles to see the difference.

Hmmmmm. Not my experience on the 7/PPP. I've found the fuel consumption to be VERY sensitive to whether I'm stop-start and around town, or running long distances on relatively open roads. And, generally, less economical than the unmodded car About 10% less economical driving my normal pattern at my normal speed. Hmmmm.....

I've only had the PPP for about 3 weeks (STi7) so maybe too early to say but certainly on M-way and A road driving its better than before - around town probably unchanged. I have found that driving style affects thirst much more than before. Thrash it and you can almost see the fuel guage needle drop.

It makes some sense that you see a small improvement in fuel consumption. The PPP changes the ECU but also the exhaust. Improvements in the restrictive cat and other parts may benefit overall part-throttle efficiency. Remember the engine is working to push the exhaust gases through the cat all the time, even under cruise conditions. Changes to the exhaust mean that new settings for ignition advance etc. maybe possible which again yields better efficiency.
Alternatively you can make full use of the extra efficiency for more performance and not save any fuel. In fact at full throttle the PPP engine will be able to flow more air which will require more fuel.

unless i'm mistaken the subaru offical figures for standard STI says at a constant 56 you should get 436 miles out of a full tank.
some guy seriously into S&M must have got that number

So after about 110,000 miles and 25,000 litres at 80p each the PPP will have paid for itself.
So this is the new line to take:-
owner: I need the PPP for the STI.
wife: But that's £2k.. is'nt it fast enough already!
owner: Its really all about efficiency and the environment.
wife: OK then... I knew you were really green at heart.
owner: Of course dear.
Everyones happy!
