Thumbs up

well, they both use horizontally-opposed boxer engine designs if that's what you mean. It was Dr Porcshe himself that came up with the idea.

depends if you meen that question in a general sense.

yes they are both flat engines, Early Porky flat 4s and 6's weren't DOHC and are air cooled. Only the latest are DOHC and water cooled.

If you meant did Subaru copy porsche or vica versa. I don't think so! (I'm trying to be serious and not laughing and taking the P here )

Also Porker's have chain driven valve gear, Scoobs use belts.

I heard somewhere that Subaru got the rights to the Jowett boxer engine and developed it from there. I can't vouch for this but it would be interesting to know.

Dr Porsche most certainly did not come up with the original design for the Boxer engine, although he did make it famous! Tatra (Dr. Ledwinka) were using boxer engines in cars ten years before Porsche even designed the volkswagen. But, like most things in combustion engine technology, the originator was an aircraft engine builder, Max Friz, who designed the concept in around 1912.

Max went on to be a key player in the build up of a small company called BMW in 1917.

And to take it off subject... aircraft design is very similar to race car design. Just look at an F1 cockpit and think of a fighters cockpit.

Infact it was Germany's sports car engineering that gave them the technology to build the Luftwaffe's fighters for the second world war while they were band from building an airforce.

Think I've been watching the Discovery Channel too much

So to answer the question -

Both are IC,
Both run on Petrol,
etc, etc, etc.
Oh hang on, I stole that from somewhere
