Question

I'll start off with my post from the original thread.

OK, I have an ulterior motive here, but...

Why not donate the proceeds to a charity that is much more low profile, and has a harder time raising funds. I do some work for a charity in Birmingham called BYV Adventure Camps, we take kids from Birmingham to Wales every year for a camping adventure holiday (skiiing, abseiling, mountain climbing, canoeing, gorge walking etc.) All the kids are refered by Social Services, and to give you an idea of the problems the kids have, we have 4 volunteers a driver and a cook for each group of 10 kids Those who have seen me after the week know what I mean

Most of our cash comes from charitable trusts, but it is getting incresingly hard to get funding as most trusts do not allow more than 1 grant to a particular charity in a time of 5-10 yrs. Also a lot of our equipment is geting a bit knackered, 2 of our marquees saw service in Korea, the cooking stuff is getting a bit dodgy, and the kids tents could do with being replaced. A lump sum that has not been budgeted for would go a long way, and make a big difference.

For the Adventure camps all staff and organisers are unpaid, the only paid positions are a 1/2 share of a manager and secretary. Go on you know it makes sense

If anyone would like any more info, drop me an email and I'll answer any questions I can, or put you in touch with BYV direct, always after volunteers, though its not easy its great fun, especially after selective amnesia has set in and you forget all the difficult bits.

Paul

BEN is a charity that works with motorsport and may be good idea to benefit them as well, to get motorsport type people involved, but they do have a lot of other events going on to benefit them.

Paul,

Sounds like a good charity.

Depending on the amount of money raised, we could split it equally between 2 charity's. Say Paul's and Diabeties. (Both my parents suffer.)

Should we have a main charity decided and then a second available depending on the money raised, or will this become unmanageable?

P.

It would be great to make enough money to support a few charities, so how about maybe 2 main ones with 1 or 2 others to support if proceeds reach a certain level.

Also my brother used to do the PR for Prodrive (when McRae won the world title), until Prodrive set their own department up. His company is based very close and he has great contacts still. If any help is needed just email me and I will see what I can do. In fact if any help was needed count me in, for the committee, on the day etc.

Hi all

This all sounds like a great idea and I would just like to add another good cause to the list.
The charity is called WHIZZ KIDZ and they help disabled people purchase wheelchairs and other specialist equipment for getting around.
I would like to nominate them as they helped my brother so he could get an off road power wheelchair.
You would not belive how much some of this equipment costs.
To give you an idea my brothers power chair and his sports wheelchair have a combind value of about £5000 so you can see why so many people need help buying them.

Thanks

Chris

Just read most of the stuff on here and have got a really good charity for you to consider.
I know that it is not a tiny little charity but how about one for testicular cancer,i can't remember the actual charity name but there is one,and it does't get hardly any publicity and I believe that it is probably a very good cause especialy as most of you I believe are men and any one of you could get it or your sons if you have any!

Nice idea SuzyQ - shame it took a woman to think of it

All charities are worthy causes but I think we need to find something we can all agree on - like a charity for people injured driving Fords?... [Sorry - Hope, Colin is OK!]

Are there any motoring groups with charitable status?

Cool

Any charity that helps kids /disabled is fine by me.........not wishing to be a damp squib but because we are from all over the u.k. then IMOHO any funds would really need to go to a national charity for distribution to local areas.

regards
mike f.

ps don't childline need brass at the moment , they seem to be in the news every so often saying they are in difficulties.

Cool

I think the charity should be a nationwide one and not localised.
Child and cancer donations are fine for me.
My personal charity choice is the orangutan foundation though.
What can I say?, I read Terry Pratchett and someones got to do something.
(I don't expect this to get the vote I just thought I'd mention it.)

I like BladeRunner's idea of the coast to coast.

Cheers

Mojo

Up for any charity - cancer, kids, animals - there's so many to choose from and all as deserving at the next...

Mojo - I saw the Terry Pratchett docu on TV, heartbreaking stuff.

Thumbs up

Mike's idea gets my vote as well (although as a TP fan I like the idea of the orangutans )

I have already posted this on one of the other topics - but what about getting a car magazine like Evo involved? Good bunch of guys - ace drivers and they love their Scoobies and we should be able to blag some free advertising.

Chris
