Remove the rear speakers from a classic impreza saloon? I have new speakers to go under the shelf but it looks like the old speakers are fixed from above Do you remove the grills or remove the shelf? I have tried pulling at the grills but don't want to break them

paul, ask chiark about this. It's not too easy from my experiance. Have a look here

I think you'll have to make a new rear shelf with those size speakers. That or cut the metal..........

underneath wil be ok but they will be compromised because of the shape of the hole the sound will have to come through

I've got my 6x9s in now - like you I put them underneath the shelf. There's not a lot of room with the changer and the boot arms etc... However, they do work nicely & look standard.

Hope yours went in as nicely!

7x10s will be a struggle if you want to keep the OE grills. I'm having a fight with some 6x9s. I want to keep the car looking original, and I don't want to cut the metal...)

You can take the whole shelf cover off quite easily by bending it up in an arc in the middle and pulling it forwards - it's probably better than messing about with the grills.

Once the shelf cover is off, you can see the screws holding the OE speakers in.
