Can anyone point me in the right direction of a picture of the P1 mudflaps?

LOL it took me so long to write this post that someone else beat me too it.

Tell me. I own an sti7, type UK, 2002.

At 1000 miles, first service, paint chips on both doors at the bottom.

Stone chips on bonnet. 1200 miles.

Dealer said at first service, wear and tear.

Since then Chips Away have been to look and yes, the bonnet, wear and tear, the doors however....He's never seen this before.

Car now 7 months old. 5500 miles. Chips no worse.

Any one had this problem, if so........

Would chips away do a good job?
Should I install mudflaps? (dont want to)
Dealer...any responsibilty?

Help please.

Ive just had first service done and no stone chips yet(touch wood), but mudflaps are on order.

Stone chips on both door bottoms on my MY02 WRX, also on window pillar, bonnet, wings........................

They just dont seem to have a lot of paint on the panels !!

They quoted me £75 for ALL chips, minor scratches on bonnet, doors, etc...

I've used Chips Away a couple of times, and have been happy with the results. I would use them again. I suppose it depends on how good the guy who covers your area is though.

I didn't want mudflaps on my car either, thinking that they would detract from the the lines of the car, however, the P1 mudflaps (I think they're call stone gaurds) are very small and don't hang down any further than the sills and are made of 3 - 4 mm thick tough plastic.

IMHO they are excellent they stop all stones hiting the side of the car as they drop vertically down from their highest anchor point instead of following the curvature of the cars body. Plus they stop the usual dirt spray and are very discreet. I'll try and find the part number as dealers look at you as though you are mad if you ask for them! In fact ask for a chap called Derek @ Cross Country Vehicles, OXON, he'll send them to you.

dont talk to me about stone chips, i have a white P1. when i took it for a service i asked them if they could touch them up for me but the dealer said that they couldn't do anything as i had so many. i've even got 1 on the rear spoiler!!

is there a "chips away" in North London??

The flaps Timbo is talking about are the Prodrive mudflaps and are about £20 from a dealer.

I have some for my STi8 but they need another hole drilling as the skirt is different.

I have them fitted to my MY03 WRX and you're right they needed to extend the bottom hole on the flap (very simply done). Worth every penny in my opinion.

£20 quid!!!!! I was quoted £500 inc vat and fitting for some (gold plated) mudflaps from the dealer....That's for 4, not each. LOL

3 independant paint specialists have all said the paint on the doors is NOT up to scratch. Try Subaru for a warranty claim. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. I'll post the outcome as soon as I know.

My 03 STi had paint damage to very bottom edge of drivers door. Only found it at first wash, dealer seemed fairly unsympathetic that it may have been there at delivery.

My STI7 has stone chips its done 7000 miles and yes i have THE MUDFLAPS that cost £450 fitted,The paint on the new cars seems to me to be s*!t, not a happy bunny. The way thinks are going with these subarus this could be my last,the dealers don`t want to know,I got my first scooby from SGT who made owning a scooby a painful experience,So i went to adams for my STI A little better but not the outstanding service i was expecting.I`m not the only one who seems to have a moan now and then, scoobynet is full of you with the same Issues.OOOOOOh i feel much better now, sorry guys

I’ve got a MY01 (same car in this respect?) It’s DBM and it shows every chip up J I’ve got some stone chips on the bonnet, but none on the bottom of the doors, and I don’t have mud flaps.

Somebody said on here (sorry can’t remember who but IIRC they knew what they were talking about) said that the paint on scoobs is very thin.

I’ve been using the Swissol polishes (from the Wax Wizard) for a year or so now and I’m convinced this has reduced the susceptibility of the paint to chipping. I’ve had very few chips since I did this.

anyone heard of of ZYMOL.

Expensive but highly recommended. £99 plus £4.99 postage. Starter kit including shampoo, cleanser (to remove all old polishes, not paint) then apply wax. Several clothes etc.. thrown in. The tub of wax, about the size of a large coffee cup is said to, and i quote "last 4-6 YEARS, if waxing every month."

A very small amount, baked bean size, is melted to produce a 100% natural oil, no chemicals. This would treat e.g. one door panel.

Highly protective.

The mudflaps.......I have ordered the Prodrive, small type, from Jim Childs, £110 plus Vat for all four.
