Guys
thinking of getting either a WRX 03 or a 03 STI - and wonder what the running costs are like, not worried about fuel as i do few miles per year and have already got an insurance quote for an STI for 800 from elephant (26 8yrsNCB, good postcode etc), but what are tyre and servcing prices like.. I have owned a TVR in the past and the service costs on average were in the region of 6k service - £300, 12k - 500 quid..
any advice would be great...

STi Type UK (MY02)
My insurance is under £550 per year (elephant)
First service at 1K miles (free, well £40 for parts or something like that).
2nd Service at 10K miles (just under £100 with SIDC discount)
3rd Service at 20K miles (not got there yet, but should be under £200)
Tyres - mine have lasted almost 15K miles so far, but are getting close to replacment. Got a quote of under £110 fitted for Goodyear Eagle F1 GDS3's for the standard 225/45x17 size.
Year 2 onwards - £120 per year for tracker subscription.
By far the biggest running costs are fuel at 18 - 23mpg on average, and depreciation (though this is only a factor if you sell).

Did any one else go through a set of brake pads in 10000 miles? And have you paid to have pads from Italy worth £100 shipped to Japan, returned in a Fuji Heavy Industries box, and been charged another £250 on top for shipping and fitting?
Just wondered

The pads are the same as fitted to an EVO 6/7, so if you phone up suppliers, just ask for a set of EVO 6 pads - you'll probably find they are priced cheaper than if you ask for STi ones.
I believe that the STi pads are very slightly different, in that they are marginally thinner in terms of pad material when new (I think the STi discs are slightly different). Not sure why this means they should be more expensive, especially when the EVO spec ones fit perfectly.
