Read a few articles on here about how pants the AE802 ECU is on the MY00 Impreza. I have one and my car does seem a tad hesitant when the turbo kicks in. I still have 6 months warranty. Just want to ask how many people have had theirs swapped for an AE801/800 ECU and how they went about it. Also which would be better to go for AE800/AE801?
Cheers,
Simon.

Ask your dealer and see what they say - doubt they'd replace it at this stage though.
My MY00 cars an EU import and was out of warranty when I heard about the improvements with fitting the earlier MY99 ECU. I've fitted an AE800 and its a big improvement.

Why do you doubt they would replace it at this stage? Purely on the age of the car (X Reg Sept '00). Ive only had it 8 months myself.
BTW where did you get your replacement ECU and how much?

my car was out of warranty (1st Reg Nov99- MY00)when I bought it.. and I have now had the ECU swapped to an 801 I bought it off P20SPD
.. its great..
slight differences in mpg (sligtly better mpg when driven hard) idle is better and it pulls pulls pulls..
go for it and if you do a SN search for AE800/801 you can get an idea of prices..

Difference is unbelievable and well worth the effort of getting a AE801. The AE800 has a better map, but is harder to get hold of. Read up and see graphs at http://www.ecutek.co.uk.
I was probably the first person to do this (or at least do it and discuss on here) after Floyd suggested it a few years ago. We should have patented the plans, and bought all then spare AE801 / AE800 ECU's in the country before disclosing the results!!
I had a really bad hesitating MY00 and was so pissed off with it. You may be able to do a search on "hesitating bag of **** / or ****e" and read up. Floyd posted on here about trying a different ECU from an ealier car and a mate had a spare one. Put it in and the difference was unbelievable!! I instantly liked the car again. Around the same time I discussed this with Steve Done and the rest is history
Place an ad in the wanted section or look in the for sale section. Either that or someone like P/E / Bob Rawle / John Banks can remap the ECU with a similiar map to the AE801 or even a TEK. I know what I'd spend my money on
Hope this helps, Phill

Phil is correct! I bought all the spare 801's I could get my hands on from dealers and others who had swapped them for PPP ECU's. I sold 'em for £75ish a pop (not saying what I paid though ). Others have charged more and it's probably worth it.
There may be a few dealers who don't know what they've got, so it won't hurt to ask if they have any on a pile somewhere....

This is something I have heard about & am looking into doing to my MY00.
I have managed to track down someone who says they can supply me with either the AE800 or AE801 ECU's at £150 +VAT

The AE801 is a good map, but the AE800 is much better. You can get your existing ECU remapped by ECUTEK or John Banks, for about the same price I know what I'd go for!!

I've managed to get a AE800 for AUD$385 (about 130 pounds) delivered from a wrecker. ECUtek want twice that for ECUtek 1 remap and AUD$1385 for 2 remap. Supposedly they have recently made some further changes to the 1 remap which makes it even better than the standard AE800 and AE801 map.

Got an AE801 from the 4sale forum for £135... car is alot less hesitant and boost holds a little longer. Will have to give the actuator a turn once I get the heat shield off, just to make sure it's holding boost like it should
Soon got used to it though, and am now in search of a PPP ECU.
If all else fails I'll just have to fit the FCD I built for my previous MY94.
