Why dont 'older' scooby drivers wave??!......
#1
I may be being very 'general', but in my experience, the 'older' (40+) scooby drivers never seem to wave or flash their lights, they just look at you as if you're insane!!!
Anyone experienced this??!!

See my various threads on Scooby Snobery and general bad manners.
It's not just to confind to the 40+, cos I am 40 and I'd wave at Saddam if he was behind the wheel of a Scooby. Some people are genuine Scooby enthusiasts and happily wave at other Scooby drivers. Some have Scoobies a company cars or " becuase it sounds good down the pub " so they basically are Light Ale Cavaliers.
I pass two in these catagories every day and make it my busines to wave and flash to the point of destraction.
Persevere with the waving mate, we are part of the beautiful people who are genuine Scooby enthusiasts.

When the Impreza was a cult car, I could see the point of waving.
Now everyone has one from the boyracer in his £4k WRX with his bling chunky gold chain worn outside his clothes to city banker in his £27k STI8PPP.

I'll be getting free prescripions in a years time! I acknowledge all scooby drivers (and Cossie drivers!) I think the comradeship is great. It's a pity more people don't take up the idea, there would be less road rage? Mind you, the thought of evey Mondeo owner waving to each other gives visions of cars crashing everywhere!

At the risk of being controversial In my (limited) experience I always get a friendly wave or flash in return from classic scoobs, but not a single one to date from a bugeye!
Edited for poor typing.

Had mine just over 2 weeks, only seen 1 other scoob when I`ve been in mine, a nice green one. We passed each other in a car park, and nodded at each other. Our lass thought I was a saddo!!
Seen plenty when I`m in the works van, but it`s just not the same!! Lol.

I find the smoke from my pipe stops me seeing other scoobies, and if I do see them the old arthiritis plays up too much if I lift my hand from the wheel
I'm 45 and I wave.
Alas

I find its a reaction thing - they flash/wave and by the time I've noticed and realised why, they've gone - doh !
I prefer it when people hoot rather than wave - as age makes it difficult to see that far (lights sometimes attract my attention) - and the noise may wake me up so I notice where I am and what I am doing.
If I could just remember where I put my hot chocolate ....

(Been waving and flashing to other like cult car owners since being in the pop up headlight brotherhood of Lotus Elans/+2's I had in the 60's/70's. It is disappointing when they are not returned - the calibre of Scooby owners has deteriorated in recent years !!!! )

Thing that gets me is that since I've owned my scoob (we got married last October) I seem to spend more time watching the on-coming traffic looking for other scoob owners to flash/wave at, than paying attention to what's happening on my side of the road.
Still, I can hope to blame senility for my shortened attention span. WAH-HEY!!! Now I can get away with a lot more than I used to - I have an excuse
You young 'uns don't know what yer missin'

i was down by the cotswold conference centre last week when i passed a silver wagon driven by a more mature lady. i felt ashamed as she waved at me and i didn't wave back. i normally do but didn't expect a wave of a pensioner.
moral - wave to every scoob

If someone waves at me then I'll wave back out of politness. Other than that, forget it. I don't see myself as part of some exclusive club. Imprezas are cheap and driven by everyone from boy racers to grannys. We are not all like minded, so just because someone doesn't wave, doesn't mean they're a snob. Maybe they just don't require external ratification on thier choice of car.

I think it depends on age and who they are, i think alot of scooby drivers out there are from the old school and don't know about the wav thing.
Also they might be like my dad who needs to keep both his hands on the wheel to drive.

I usually wave or flash and get a wave or flash back. It's a nice feeling. If someone doesn't wave back I just assume they don't know about the wave thing. Even though Scoobies are more common nowadays there's still something about them and a lot of Scooby drivers like to feel they're in a club.
I'd like to develop a special wave for waving at Scoobies when I'm not in mine, e,g, when walking or when unavoidably driving a lesser car.
Is there a special Scoobynet wave?

but why do you feel the need to wave at strangers who happen to drive the same marque car?
If you walked up to someone in the supermarket who was buying the same brand washing powder and started to act all friendly you'd be locked up (quite rightly) !

I always wave at scoobies but like Blobster I've found that classic drivers wave back more than Bugeyes. If I don't wave it probably means I'm having too much fun just driving around. The scoob always puts a big smile on my face.
