Hmmm... those radiator protectors seem like a good idea now...

I got a small stone through my radiator last night on M6 - heard a bit of a clunk then approx. 10 mins later stopped due to steam obstructing my forward vision... Good old Subaru Assistance eventually got someone to me (1 hr 40 mins later) and scoob now in Monks Heath Motors. Incidentally the radiator was peppered with dents - this really is a weak link.

Apparently this is not warranty hence £300+ notes out of my own pocket.

Hopefully no engine damage due to overheating but won't know til tomorrow when the new unit goes in. If there's more bad news is this going to be covered by my insurance?

Minor rant - why does every stone on the M6 want to hurt my car? I never got a single stone chip on that hell-road before I got the scoob.

So did a commercially available rad guard for a UK turbo ever come into being? I noticed something similar recently but seemed to be targeted at STIs.

christ thats expensive, have you not looked into a recore instead, these usually cost ITRO £100.

never needed one for a scoob, but is isnt exactly rocket science to have one done using your rad end's if no-one has them in stock.

Your having to foot the bill so why not get it sorted as cheaply as you can, the rad will be just as good as a new one.

Good point. I suppose my priorities were (1) get back on the road asap and (2) keep IM happy in terms of possible future warranty wrangles.

You're dead right though - it's a ripoff.
