yep besides enjoying my MY98, I trade the share market - profitably. Its almost as much fun and pays for my driving pleasure. Any other stock followers on this board?

I recently bought a software package called Indexia and found they are all scooby fans as well!! They even have links to scooby sites.

Yeah - I've just started. Though I deal in the US stockmarkets (but am based in the UK) because

- Don't want to spend too much at the moment (I'm just a beginner) so didn't want an account with a minimum cash limit.
- Lots and lots of info on the US market out there.
- Like to think I can make millions on all the NASDAQ IPOs going on

In the end I went for a discount broker called Suretrade ($9.95 per trade) and have bought some 3COM stock (they've just IPO'ed Palm computing) and stock in Tower Semiconductor (doing a lot of research in to flash ram - which I think will be big in all the new mobile devices)

So far I'm up 15% - and that's in just over two weeks .

So far the best resources I've found are

Motley Fool -

hi guys
I have been in the dealing in UK shares for about 15 months now. did not start with much at all!! around the same price as a link ECU, AP or Brembo brakes and back box. you see every one on this site could afford it judging from the amount of money we spend on our cars
I am up over 700% since I have started. I don't think you need any software programme as the internet has got every thing you will ever need. saying that quicken is good enough for me and is pretty cheap.
lastminute.com is good hoping that they don't do what interactive investor done and give me only 145 shares.

James wouldn't you need to pay US tax on us shares? and how about UK tax?

good sites that I use

There was talk of setting up a Scooby Share Club.

Did this get anywhere?

I'm still interested - a good place to start perhaps for another share newbie?

Chris.

Very interesting. I've just downloaded a free chart programme from indexia.co.uk web site. good stuff too. I have dabbled (means lost money) in shares for many years. These guys seem to know what they're talking about. Perhaps I'll start to make money to put down on my next scooby. Won't be until next year though as I have a shiney new MY00W.

P.S. Where are the scooby links?

I am thinking of setting up a share club. I know 2-3 people who are interested. so if you email me off line I will try to get something set-up in the new financial year i.e. after April. there is more the 100 share club set up a week in the UK alone. this is like the US few years back. the more people get into shares the more the share prices will go up. also it will mean that the private investors will be able to manipulate the market instead of big institutions. this is a good thing for every body really.

according to bloomberg tv there is people going around schools and getting students to deal in shares in a share club( not with real money), the aim of the exercise to get every body into this kind of thing from a young age. this is a revolution and you don't want to miss out.

Yep - I'd be interested in a share club.

Sam - You do have to pay tax, but the UK has a tax treaty with the US, which means I pay 15% tax (I think) to the IRS and declare the remainder to the UK Tax Office.

I deal shares all the time. It would be great to have a share club, I would certainly be interested.

All the web sites seem to have been tipped already except this one.

If anyones into the NASDAQ I would reccommend Datek Online for trading purposes. they seem good and just about the cheapest in terms of trade fees.

Cool

Kev,
I downloaded that indexia program and upgraded it for £29 and they sent me a set of prices for every share on the market which I update from prestel city feed - free.

This is fun - now I can see graphically where I am losing money. Having said that, I bought a biotech stock yesterday called provalis which is up 25% this morning.

Thanks Lee for pointing me there.

I would consider joining a share club.

But be warned shares can go down as well as up. At the mo we still seem to be in a bull market...... but I remember the last one ending in 1987. It wasn't pretty.

Stick with reputable houses who are properly regulated. As you don't get certs these days the likelyhood is they will hold your shares on your behalf. If they fold you must be sure they have your shares properly segregated.

Beware of buying foreign shares, you may open yourself up to high custody charges and on top of share price movements you have exposure to currency risk.

Anyway the DOW's closed off 196.7 today so I'm off to bed.

Goodnight.

Dave

I have just DOUBLED MY MONEY on Provalis in two days. Bought them at 27.5 on monday and sold out this morning at 61. Steve A, you are smiling too.

This is entirely due to the Indexia program that Lee recommended to us. Thanks I owe you one mate. I'm now going to plough the profits into upgrading the software and really get into this stuff.

Anyone interested, try

Sure am i have baled out as well & 57p. Most worrying on this one was the Chairman didn't know why the price was jumping around the world. dare i say it but a classic ramp starting in the US...price is falling but may buy back at 30-35p. Just my opinion though..Do your own research etc etc. Might have a look at this grapging tool you are mentioning tonight. PS another i bought a few days ago Surgical Innovations at o.o5p has jumped 28%this morning. Don't know why though!!!!!!!

Damn you KevinS but well done. You obviously got into charts quicker than I did. Thats a great profit. How did you pick it up with the programme? I must say I am having fun but still have to get to grips with it.

Did you say you owe me a CASE, not just one.
