loose shocker on my STI 8?
#1
Since new, (it's now 3 days old) my 8 has a clunk from the rear suspension when i go over a manhole cover or similar.
Its as though when the shock suddenly has a downward drop raqther than a roll over a bump, something in the suspension top mount has play.
Any one had anything similar. How easy is it to get at the n/s rear top mount?
I don't particularly want to take it 50 miles back to the dealer for th sake of a 5 minute spanner check

I had a clunk from the back end.. the chunk of wood that is under the boot carpet was not in its lugs and was sliding about... doubt this is the same problem though.

Ah my 99 Type R is doing the same too! Seems to happen when at slow speeds and when the cars body is moving backwards & forwards i.e when braking and pulling up to a junction or even pulling out of a junction. Can only just be moving and I can hear a knocking noise from my left rear!
Don't think its the jack/spare wheel tho. Well not in my case.

Yes indeed!!! Check the Jack, then research the threads on "suspension" for the myriads of STi7(UK)s which had/have the problem.
Anyone else got a rattly STi8 out there??

Having this problem on my MY99 Uk turbo and have been searching for an answer.
Likely culprits so far are worn bushes, loose rear struts, loose spare tyre\jack.
I can't see you having worn mechanicals so I'd check out the tyre and jack first.
Does it only happen at low speeds (below 40mph) as that's what mine is doing.
