Since day one my STi 8 has had a strange engine vibration at about 2500 revs, you can feel it through the pedle and can hear it. It is almost like the engine is running realy rough at that range but once past 3000 it smooths out and the same when it is at 2000. Took it too the dealer and the head echanic drove it but said he couldn't notice anything, but the road was quite rough and when you drive the car all the time you will notice these things. He said just to run the car in and see what happens but I am worried somethig is not quite right.

The first 1000 miles and the oil are generally designed to wear any uneven surfaces together, although the quality of machining these days is much better.
I would have though that this problem, if it is the engine (could be heatshield/engine mount related), would need to improve very shortly about 30-50 miles. Otherwise get it to the dealer, you have paid good money for this car and you need to be happy with it, if your not happy with the car you could consider rejecting it.
Cheers
Ian.

I get a slight drone between 2500 to 3000 revs on my standard sti7. Engine is generally not as refined as the standard wrx's imho. Fitted a prodrive backbox and car much improved.

Had similar on a MY02 STI, vibration at 3-4k rpm.
Turned out to be a loose pipe somewhere under the intercooler that had come out of its retaining clip. Dealer sorted it out no problem.

Not noticed anything like this in mine, but will take more notice when I drive tonight.
However I have never driven it with the standard exhaust as I had a TSL centre decat, resonator and Firestorm BB fitted before I tok delivery, which could make me miss anything unusual from the engine due to the noise from the exhaust !

Might be worth checking that the heatshields on the exhaust system are tight and not cracked. My heatshield which is cracked vibrates at exactly 2500 RPM. It maybe just that the engine has a vibration period at that RPM and it is causing something else to vibrate in sympathy.

Only done 250 miles, as I only do about 250 miles a week it's going to take me a month to run it in so I am getting a bit p1ssed off. Drove my other halfs 03 WRX last night and the engine was nice and smooth. Sometimes it feels like a tractor , that is my car not hers.
