Honda S2000 gets Forestered
#1
I'm far too mature to race people but a bloke in an S2000 came screaming up to my bumper on the local dual carraigeway the other day. I let him past but tagged back on and to his great surprise was still there several miles later which may or may not have been covered quite quickly.
I then annoyingly nipped past while he waited in a roundabout Q and drove the next bit dead slow so he could catch up with me.
My car is a stock Forester UK turbo - I thought he would have been quicker.....
And yes he was trying. He accelerated up to ***mph quite hard.

No offense m8 but I would suggest he wasnt trying too hard then.
Between me and my mates weve owned scoobs, s2000s etc etc and we found the s2000 was pretty evenly matched for a UK Turbo 2000, and a little bit quicker than a Bugeye.

yup, I had a fun drive with one of these last summer (in my standard MY99) and as we went from roundabout to roundabout, on a dual carriageway, there was absolutely nothing in it from 2nd gear to 4th gear.

Depends Deerhunter, if you want a good looking sports car or a 4 door saloon that is rather common, peoples priorities arent always what is quicker between roundabouts, id far rather have the S2k whether a scoob could stay with it or not, IMHO.

I love(d) both cars. If you need to be practical and kart other people/things around then the scooby is a winner. However, if you want a low slung proper sports car that turns heads then the S2000 wins every time, esp in the summer with the hood down - oh yeh

The S2000 looks so damn graceful - the looks it gets and the power is there too!
Forrester...erm. looks a bit grandaddy ish...
Granted, the STI and the P1s have power but they are so not good looking.

s2000 was pretty evenly matched for a UK Turbo 2000
We took a Forester Turbo round Donno and from Coppice to the Esses indicated top speed matched std MY00 imprezas.
Lap times were of course a different matter altogether!

i have test driven the S2000 a few months ago, shortly after i got my non WR RB5 and i have to say i couldnt beleive just how slow it felt.
I floored it from just after stationary, mid range and top revs in different gears and was very surprised that it couldnt compare to the scoob.
one of my mates had one a few years ago and his felt unbeleivable.
i no they r supposed to have power at the top end but this one just didnt do anything for me.
I am test drving a civing type R & the new S this weekend.
I am going to try and get another go in an S2000 just to see if it may be run in more or wotever.
I am not trying to put down or dis the honda just giving my experience and how i compared the 2

I'm a lucky lad with both.....Very hard to compare as they fulfill 2 different jobs...Without doubt the Scuby has more GRIP
and would safer in untrained hands.
the S2k is SO much fun to drive and the noise @8000rpm is out of this world But you have to row it along to get the best out of it.
Iwas going to sell the WRX because its not as involving as my old classic shape ...but its a hard decision....so I'll keep it!!
Anybody know of any softer seats with wider Shoulders to ease my lumbagoed back..... Scuby enjoyment isnt limited to just you young blades!!

I always fancied an S2000... had £1000 deposit down on one when they were pre-release, even bought an "S200Oxx" number plate for it. Then I bought a flat and so couldn't afford it ... spent £7k on an FTO instead.
Had the FTO 2 years then took an S2000 out for an enthusiastic test drive during last summer... also took one out for 4 laps round a circuit a couple of weeks ago. Generally I was very disappointed. The S2000 felt only marginally faster than my FTO, and like the FTO needed ragging to really get any power out of it. At low revs it was a dog, and with the engine so far back in the engine bay (ie on top of your feet!) the sound is more of a thrashing from the 4-cyl engine than a nice rumble/roar from the exhaust as with the V6 FTO or any other decent sports car. The looks are also a little disappointing...
Now I have a P1 and only drive the FTO on the odd weekend when my missus lets me ... the P1 firmly kicks the S2000 into touch and I'd still rather have a £7-8k FTO and 10k in the bank than an S2000.
Yeah, it's a RWD convertible.... but so's an MX-5 and Z3.

Mark if you sell the RB5 i will haunt you for the rest of your natural life for it lol.
Honda = 2WD, nice engines (v-tec) and good build.
Scooby = 4WD, lots of fun, a drive to die for and engine note that cannot be touched by much other than a TVR.
Nuf sed...respek

I really wanted a civic type R so I bought one, I already had an S2000 and I kept it, then I got a standard UK turbo scoob, and sold both the Honda's, they have their own charm but a few quid spent on the UK Scoob and the smilies per hour are not matched at all by their Jap counterparts, S2000 loooks good but the drive must rule, surely?

Comparing an MX-5 and a Z3 to an S2000 is criminal, perhaps a Z3M may be but none of the other models.
I am surprised that some people think only speed is the number one reason for choosing a car. Bearing in mind the amount of traffic we have on our roads, I'm surprised anyone really gets to enjoy the absolute power of a P1 that often.
Where as on the other hand Sun out, top down, giving it some VTEC large revs....I know which car I'd rather be in.
Oh and I'm lucky if I see another one once during the week on my way to work! Common they are not!
