I used a tin of Halfords mix for my fog lamp covers. The lacqured finish wasn't quite as good as a pro job but ok for those small non prominant parts.

Prob ok for your bumper bits but not sure about the side skirts which are larger and sit next to pristine bodywork. So if you have to pay for those you may as well pay for it all.

Alternativly, some painted skirts do come up second hand in the classifieds from time to time.

lol! Don't waste your money, it's easy - I used all Halfords stuff, Primer, wet & dry paper, their mixed paint and lacquer. The spray paints quite good as the nozzle gives a good light spray.

As said before, just use light coats, key and clean it properly. I had a bumper done by a bodyshop last year and within 2 months it was flaking...so I tryed this one myself. Two months later = no problems! Oh, and don't be tempted to use the ends of the can as they won't give an even spray...

There's loads ofadvice if you use "search"...try "my weekend antics" by Moles Dad

I sprayed the handles, lip spoiler, mirrors and all bumpers...

Here's one of my old posts with a few links in:

I don't pretend to be an expert - all the advice I got was from Moles Dad's threads on Scoobynet -

...but that should be good 'cos if I can do it anyone can

I brought all the things at one to do the side skirts and rear quarters, wing mirrors, door handles and washer jets - it was 3x 500ml cans of primer and 1x 300ml, 3 can's of the Halfords Subaru Paint (I think they're 300ml cans, but they only come in one size anyway ) and 2x 500ml cans of laquer (although I should have really brought an extra 300ml as I used every last drop!).

To do the skirts and rear quarters only I think I used 2x 500ml primer, 2x cans of coloured paint and 1 1/3x cans of laquer. That was for 4/5x coats of primer, 4/5x coats of paint and /34x coats of lacquer ...from what I've read you just keep going 'till it looks right!

It does look darker initially, but I found after 1/2 days it dulls down and I now have an excellent match on the car (and I'm very fussy!) (although it now shows the dirt )

Hi just wanted to ask a bit of advice with regards to colour coding the skirts and rear bumper extensions my self. I don't have any specialist tools like a compressor or an oven just a 1kw electric fire in the garage

Would I be able to do it? What are the primers and lacquers I need.
Do I need a special Flexible primer like used on the rear wings and front lips?

I have got a tin of touch up from Halfords so getting paint mixed up is no prob and they can supply in a tin. Will this be good enough for a decent finish?

I am guessing that I would need to key the skirts 1st so giving them a rub down with some wet and dry is the 1st step. From there I'm pretty much lost.

Why are you doing the back ones, aren't the skirts done?

the best paint to use is 2Pak, for solid colours, but is poisoness, you cant get it in a spray form, but its hard as nails when dry.
Local body shop did mine all in for 200 cash.
I did attempt this my self but it looked W**K, so I caved in.
But feel free to have a go with normal cans m8.

You are right, just key slightly then a good plastic primer, about 4 coats of top coat, then about 4-6 coats laquer (depending on coverage) but only put each coat on very lightly and be very patient.

Theres my money's worth anyway m8.

Good luck Nick.....
