Red face

Just managed to put a huge great crack in my front screen.
Rang Autoglass and the lady at the other end of the phone said she'd never seen a price like it on her computer....£1800+VAT!!

The UK version can be had for around £220+VAT, but doesn't have the heating element under the wipers.

Does anyone know where I might get one?

Cheers

Yup. BG GT. Not fussed about keeping the heated bit, but the top tint would be nice.

We've just had our screen replaced by national windscreens. The problem with the GTB I believe is the Bronze tint, the uk screens are not the same, in fact there was a post on here a while back about an insurance company writing off a car because the cost of the screen tipped it over the edge.

We got our screen for a MY99 B4 for £50 through the insurance company (UK version i.e. untinted) but national windscreens stated the screen was approx £400 to supply and fit normally(UK Version) to be honest it doesnt make a great deal of difference with the UK screen.

I dont know if this helps!!

Matt

Are you saying that the UK version isn't the same because of the top tint and the heated element, or that the shape is different?

Cheers

Windscreen Cover ...ummm!!

Ive got that ...but when you need it, you might aswell not have..!! I had my side window put through (MY93wrx). I cantacted Auto windscreens .. "sorry, we dont carry them in stock ... but we can get you one ...oh, yer and how long will that take? about 10days. Oh rite, so imsupposed to leave my car without a window for 10days, if the buggers tried to nick it witht the window, i might aswell left them the keys if i took their advice ...'put a bag over the window to stop the rain getting in.

Went to 'Grade A Subaru' ..got one for £60 and fitted it within an hour ...total bill with fuel = £80 ..... Auto windscreens price £460 and 10days wait.

The cheapest way to do so is buy the screen from a supplier on a supply only basis. Ask them how much & then ask how much for cash you will be supprised. Firms like Master Autoglass ( not Autoglass ), Laddaws, & most windscreen company's will sell to the public. & then flick through your yellow pages for a local windcreen company & ask them how much for a fit only of your own screen & state cash in hand. You will save a couple of hundred ££££££. I know as I work for a Glazing company !!!!!

for the Impreza, Imports havea bronze tint screen, uk ones have blue or green. I paid £50 to AutoGlass and my insurance paid the rest. I didnt know about the bronze tint, so they ordered the wrong one at first but it didnt cost me any extra. They got the bronze one within a few days. Go through your insurance, or try autoglass

Surely if the screen is covered on your policy, you ring up Autoglass, coz their the ones that give you a free screen, under your policy.
Say your screens broke, they supply screen, you sign for it, job done.

Alternativley, source the correct screen yourself, tell Autoglass where to get it. They fit it, sign for it, job done.

How can the insurance company not cover it?

They know it's an import after all, and that the screen may have to come from Japan.

The previous owner had a screen fitted. It came from japan, and went through his screen policy.
It didn't cost him £1800 either.

Cool

I don't see why not considering it is the exact same car made in the exact same factory by the exact same Jap dude just sent to a different country, I would be so suprised if they made different size cars just for the UK.... Bearing in mind that all thr cars are import in some way shape or form.

I've been waiting four months for an import rear screen. Price from Japan £800. Price s/h in this country £100. Guess which the glass company went for. Glad i'm only paying the first £50!

Mark why are you waiting so long for a rear screen and why did you tell them it was an import? what is the difference apart from charging you an extra 700 quid for nothing, a car is a car surely! unless you have some limited editon american import that was not available in the UK but a scooby is a scooby unless it is a 4 door JDM STi with a rear windscreen wiper. This is not a **** take but I really can not get my head round why there is a problem.

MRK_IV, the BG glass will fit - same body shape - the lot (just sans the tint/heater element).

Good luck.

Edit: btw, hard luck copping the crack

MRK...

The answer is yes. A UK screen will fit, the difference is the tint. The UK screens have a gradual Green tint from the top.
And yes you can get heated screens as well.

We went for untinted so as not to make the screen look out of place with the rest of the windows.

The only thing I will say is watch out for MY differences. I believe that the UK are 1 year behind. Therefore our MY99 (import) B4 RSK becomes a MY00 (New Shape) Legacy. I believe this only applies to the Legacy.

I hope this is of further help!

Many thanks Matt. I think the extra £145 to put my Insurance up to Comp might come in handy!
And AJ - Yeah, I wasn't going to mention it, but I was sure a 3Metre work top would fit in the Leggy, but when I heard the crack ...I knew it wouldn't!
