Dude!

I have a few small paint chips on my car (as you do) and a couple have gone rusty! Although they are only small (1/4 to 1/2 mm) I don't really want to leave them to fester. I have subaru touch up paint but I cant put that on over rust so what should I do???

I know this is not the right place to ask this but nobody answered me in the styling section so please leave this here mods!!!! :x

for such small chips try to scrape the rust away but always becareful from damaging the surrounding paint.
Then dab a little primer, once dry, get a cocktail stick and pour a little tiny amount of touch up paint onto the end of the stick and try to let the paint trickle down to the chip.

Usually the end result is more pleasing to the eye than dabbing with a brush.

You can buy something that will prepair rusty surface prior to painting. You paint it on and then in 12 hours you can paint over it. Unfoutunately I cant remember what its called sorry.

Thanks kenny and barry - i will try scraping it off first and if unsucsessful I will have a look for this treatment stuff. Does anyone know the name of it? If not I will just have a shufty round Halfords tommorrow.

You can also get clear lacquer that goes on top of touch up paint (metallic), included in a stone chip kit from Halfords, branded as a Mer product. You then buff the surface smooth using their drill attachment.

you can buy a product called KURST ( in think thats how you spell it) you put that in before you paint it and leave it for a while and this disolves the rust, then you just paint over it. the KURST in the pakage just looks like a touch up pen but its white.

its KURUST. works quite well The clear lacquer is also available on its own - its in the same container as the 'touch-up pens'
