I remember a few years ago you could buy CV Gaiter Boot repair kits, you cut the old one off, wrap the new one onto the shaft and glue the ends - anyone aware if these are:-
a) Still available?
b) Any good?
Its certainly easier than taking the drive shafts out!!!

Yes they're still available from Motorworld type places. I fitted one to my Pug 205 years ago, it lasted over 15k. They're quite fiddly to fit and i think i was lucky with the miles i got out of it.
Would i dream of sticking one on the Scoob? No way. Time for the flexable friend me thinks

Brun, its for the wifes 17 year old Nova!!
Its MOT time, I have just whacked it up on the 4-poster to have the annual pre-check, its a superb little car with only 60k miles!
The condition of the car is outstanding - BUT - the gaitors are cracked in one of the creases. Not spilt so NOT an MOT fail BUT I reckon they WILL fail it as its perfect on everything else (You KNOW how they LOOK for things!?)
Interesting to see it lasted 15k miles for you - thats 10 years for the missus!! may be a goer then?!

Possibly, but like i say, i think i was lucky. I've seen mates put them on and not get a week out of it. I can't remember how much they are, but if the price is right then might be worth it.

Some testers will not fail a slightly cracked boot but note it down for the owner as advisable to rectify soon. I believe where crack is allowing lubricant loss do they fail them. Over the years, several of my cars had boots with cracks appearing between the bellows. Not difficult to fit DIY replacements on most cars. I would not risk one of those glue wrap round jobbies even on a car I did not intend to keep. Still involves quite a bit of work to fit. Possibly just as easy or even less difficult to replace splitting ones properly. I suspect a Nova will be an easy job. Done several other cars over the years but not a scooby. Can't be all that different surely?

CV boot (outer) repair kit is £6.99 including a bag of grease and the two cable ties... From any decent motor factors
Removal of the drive shaft from the hub is necessary, then get a lump hammer and knock the CV joint off... Remove old boot, refit new, grease, knock the CV joint back on.. Voila.. Jobs a good un.. DO not use the "glue" together ones. They are S**te
