HHHHHHhmmmmmmmm.........
Sounds like a good idea to start with, until you think of what someone that breaks into your house to get your Scooby keys would actually be prepared to do.
If I was woken by someone standing over my bed, in a balaclava armed with a crow-bar (or worse) and asking for my car keys - I think I'd like them to get the keys and get the f**k out of my house ASAP.
If they're in your house, chances are they will get the keys whatever - unless you fancy a nice trip to hospital. Messing about with 'safe' keys etc. etc. is just going to annoy them even more and make that hospital visit more likely.
All IMHO. I wouldn't do it... my cars insured.

mr negative!!! hopefully the scumbag reads the warning(that the keys are not easy prey) then goes away...its a detterant...most of these scumbags are like sneak thiefs anyway!!!and knowing that they cannot snaek in and get the keys will be enough to put them off?!?!?!if somone is as you put it going to that sort of length for your car what would stop them ??they could have you while your driving the car?!?!....what i am talking about is a cheapish detterant which might just send them away...elsewhere?

I'd say a better alarm/imobiliser (with anti-hijack) would be my option....
Let 'em get the keys if they want them that much, get the car, and get half a mile down the road.... then go and get it once they've run away.
What would the Cossie driver had done if he had managed to keep up with the Scoob..??? Wrapped himself round a lamp-post trying to stay with it no doubt!

I have a floor safe in my house, but I dont keep my keys in there, in fact I dont keep anything in there
I would sooner they get the keys and leave me well alone
A friend of mine, had 4 masked ******* break into his house, promptly baseball batted him & his girlfriend (which obviuosly woke them up), and only after severe baseball batting, did the ******* then ask for the keys
They took the car, and wrapped it round a lampost 1 mile down the road, my mate & his Girlfriend split up as a result, and he emigrated to Canada

Best deterrent is similar to what a cat wears to stop it catching birds, collar & bell, only your cat is Rottweiller with your keys hanging from his collar

How about a "special device" that fits to the spare key to the car. Keep this in the safe so that the thief thinks it is the main key. When they break in and smash you up a bit for not giving them the keys, you then open the box and give them the key with the "special device" on it. Once they have taken the car and are out of the local area the "special device" kicks in and blows the car to **** taking with it a few of societys lesser valued members that the **** in wigs would have only given a slap on the wrist! Ok so the car gets totalled, but you have insurance and it would be a good story to tell the boys down the pub. "Alright boys, I blew up some car thieves....." Just an idea like, but might be too radical for some?

Not strong enough for me Dan....
I find it sickening what people will do to ' steal ' your car.
I mean, beating you and your girl up with a BB bat before asking for keys ?
Scenario :
I still live at home, today I am on motor bike, my car is outside my house, my mum is 70, what do I do ?
Tell her where the keys are ?
Keep them hidden ?
The keys are hidden at the mo, what should i Do ?
Last point :
My bro is so sick of his ladders ect going off his Astra van roofrack he has electrofied it, I s4it you not
