He also said 90k service is the very worst, as it combines the 45k cam belt change with a 30 or 60k one. God knows how much that will be. Cars only done 25k miles too! Its the stupid 6 months or 7.5k miles rule. They definatley make sure they get their money from low millage drivers too.

I would phone around for the best price on the next service. I live in Gloucestershire and have my 30K service coming up. The prices varied from £410 to £480 and that was just the local 4 Subaru dealerships. The hours for the service and price of the parts is set by Subaru, it is just the hourly labour charge that the garage can chagre what ever they like for.

All Subaru garages all just independant garages that are agents for Subaru so if you are not too bothered about the 'Subaru dealership' stamp in the log book take it to a specialist like Power enginneering,Scoobysport, TSL etc. They will do exactly the same job to Subaru spec and use Subaru parts but charge you a lot less at the end of it

Nezz.

I'm glad I own a classic then-do my own servicing at a fraction of the cost and you always do your own car better anyway.

Remember if it's in warranty (1st 3 yrs or more if purchased extra) you ought to get it done by a Subaru dealer. After that you can do what you like as long as you remember it might affect resale values a bit/how easy it is to sell if you go to non approved dealers. Probably not as much as the service prices can differ when you add them up over time, but still worth considering.
