Ok, I know it's probably been covered many times before, but what are the best atmospheric conditions for turbo charged cars ?

I noticed this morning that whilst cold and very wet/raining, the turbo hasn't been as willing to 'sing to me' as on previous dry crisp chilly mornings.

This leads me to wonder that a lot of moisture in the air, whilst an aid to cooling the charge of air into the engine, is taking up space that could have been a greater charge of oxygen into the engine.

So what do we need ? Scandewegian roads, low temperatures, near sea level for maximum atmospheric pressure, high air density and therefore maximum number of oxygen molecules ? Or would a continued drizzle/fog help as well.

Confused....

best conditions are sea level, 0-4 degrees C, high relative humidity all combined together.

the sea level increases the density of the air charge, the temp aids charge temp without being too cold for the air to hold moisture, the humidity acts in a similar way to water injection and raises the effective octane rate of the fuel/air charge.

the challenge then is driving quickly in these conditions.

Thumbs up

Jon,
Don't forget barometric pressure, this can severely change from one day to the next and will affect the engine... (high is good for bhp, low is not....).
