Getting New Scoob; want it inspected.
#1
Hi Peeps,
I was going to get the RAC to do it for £200. However, will the guy know what he is doing? Will I really get anything out of it? After all, this guy will probably not be a scooby specialist.
Does anyone know of a person who will inspect, and is a scooby nutter?
cheers...

The AA did mine a couple of years ago for similar money. Must admit I was a bit concious of whether they'd know exactly what to look for but I was assured that each of them had their "specialist vehicles".
To be fair this is the second one that I've had, the first being a Rover 220 turbo. They managed to point out very small bits and bats that were sorted out before I collected the car and I've never had a problem with either of them. Money well spent in my opinion.

When I sold my last Scooby, last summer, the new owner had the car inspected by the RAC, and I think the guy seemed to know about the car and what he was looking at. Also the check was very intensive and if I had been buying it I would have thought I had got my moneys worth. I was a bit concerned that the inspector would not let me see the results of his check, he told me "off the record" , "theres nothing wrong with it", but I would have thought I had the right to see his report.

Yeah, one reason I was going to get it done was to use it as a haggling tool. Nothing is perfect, so i expect to get the money back from getting the car a bit cheaper. Also i will have a good idea of what is going to need replacing soon. That was the theory anyway.
I think it would also give me some form of "piece of mind." But this would be shot to pieces if the inspecting guy hadn't a clue about imprezas. Then i think I would be wasting my time. To be honest, when I phoned up the RAC about the inpsection they wanted to know everything about the car, exact model code, vin, milage, etc... so maybe they do have expects for specfic cars. Maybe I should talk to them a bit more.

Dan, I am also in Stevenage and drive and STi3 Import. Have been driving it for over a year.
I certainly don't claim to be an expert by any stretch of the imagination, but you can look over my car in detail if you want, and I can help you with any questions you have.
Maybe even put the two cars together and compare them. Should give you an idea if there are any funny rattles etc.
Mine is high mileage, I've don over 30K in it myself, so I know how it is supposed to run.
let me know.

Bonjour Mister Hail,
I must have bumped into you on a meet somewhere... i sold my black 93WRX last week... I have moved to Baldock now, to get away from all those idiots that frequent tescos.
Seriously, thanks for the offer but I've had alook around the car, and been out in it already, and IMO its a minter. Its just I've been stung by "hidden extras" in the past, and don't want it to happen again... I intend to keep this car a while, so want to be absolutely sure before handing over the ntoes.

All the AA and RAC do is a visual inspection on their normal checks. You can download the checklists they use off their sites and do it yourself - save the cash!

One of the best things you can do is possibly ask an experienced scoobynet member to have a look at the car (if its a scoob) , they have a wealth of knowledge (you know who you are ) , they are always helpful ... and if anything goes wrong ... you can blame them

Bret555, thats a good idea if you've never owned one b4.
I got mine 'checked' by the AA when bought last August. I phoned up and they did the check the next morning, the AA man said they get really excited about cars like Scoobs and they go right to the top of the list! He told me it was a lovely mota. He said it needed new front discs and back box which the dealer duly fitted, FOC. They disagreed with the exhaust, but I had already told 'em I thought the brakes were iffy....there was a bodywork inspection option that I didn't have, but now kinda wish I did...
