Getting a car taxed
#1
Is it possible to get road tax for a car with a temporary covernote of insurance? I'm sure i've done it before but the last time i tried the woman in the post office told me it had to be the proper insurance document.

This must depend on who you get behind the counter, I have taxed cars with just the cover note on more than one occasion, and had no quibble from the staff at all.

Ive been knocked back with a covernote.
The guy behind the counter wouldnt take it because he said people were getting insurance over 12 monthly instalments,or by cheque then when the covernote was issued they cancel the cheque or the direct debit.

A covernote is a legal insurance document. Even if you had a certificate of insurance you could still cancel it a week later.
Don't take any **** from the post office minion. He has to accept it.

The covernote i have has "Legal Document" and "Certificate of insurance" stamped all over it. I'll chance my luck with this one. I'll just tour the post offices in Yorkshire till i find one that'll tax my car....
