AA much better, always get there quicker, and don't contract out to local firms as often

I've been with Green Flag for 5 years now and can only recommend them. Excellent prices, especially if you've got two cars in the household, and good service. have called on them 4 times, and they've always sorted us out.

Thumbs up

Most insurance companies are giving this away 'free' with new car policies.

Used the RAC for 6 years.......... Never had a problem in the 4 times I've used them...

Reasons they've impressed me.......

- One breakdown was a on a Motorcycle, they sent a specialised trasport to pick it up, not a flatbed with straps.

- Never had to wait more than 30mins (lucky i guess)

Got mine for 70 quid ish when I renewed with Direct Line. I think it's with Green Flag.

Fortunately to date I've not had to use 'em, so I can't rate them on anything but cost.

Haven't used them for a while (now got a reliable A4) but AA were fantastic, changed a Camshaft timing belt on my ole Cavalier for £17 in the dark. They never failed to get me going. Been with friends when Green flag turned up with no tools - just wanted to tow us home. No real attempt to fix the problem. Having said that, the AA can be slow to get to you.

Y not try Britania? I've been with them for years, they always use a local guy to come out to you, never had to wait long and they are generally cheaper than the big boys. Excellent service/good price !

Been an AA member for 20 years and have needed them about a dozen times, they have never made me wait for more than 30 minutes and have always sorted the problem.
I wouldn't change.
Wouldn't go with the RAC if they were free after watching that programme either.

Cool

Have been with the RAC for the past five years and have called them out about four times. Not for my scoob! Have never waited more than 30 mins have always got a propper RAC van with a genuinley nice bloke who is willing to tell you what he is doing and what in his opinion caused the problem. They even found me one mile up a green lane with a broken landrover discovery, not even near a tarmac road! Well thats another story entirley.
Can only say i have had excellent serveice from therm and they got me going every time apart from the disco incident, didnt happen to have a spare transfer box in the back of his van!

RAC member here.

Can't say I have always had the best service - 36 hours from call to recovery once last year being a case in point - but as a classic car owner as well as a Scooby owner they have the edge.

The (usually) turn up quickly and accept the need for flatbeds for my classics.

No extra charge for taking older cars abroad (which I do every year).

Also as I have MSA Associated membership they will recover my cars from private land (ie circuits) if anything happens.

So I guess it depends on your need, haven't had to call them out to the Scooby yet (famous last words probably), but they are in my experience the most classic friendly roadside assistance company.

Regards

Robin

RAC work for me
I flattened my battery leaving the parking light on last week, guy came round and jump started me, put on the voltage meter to check the charge, then guess what he said ?
' your battery looks a bit old '
me
' is it' giving an amused look
him
' just thought I'd say '

and off he went, I really wanted him to say I need a new one !!

Green flag for me

Took 15mins for them to arrive after some T-pot tried to nick my car and killed the immobilser trying to by-pass it - making it impossible to start it myself.

Direct line are in partnership with green flag so they should be as good.

You can actually get discounted AA membership if you are a member of the SIDC

You don't need to rejoin if you are already a member, and as I phoned them just before my renewal was due, they charged me the normal amount, but then credited my account (paid by credit card) later

John

Editted to add details for those who are members:

NEW MEMBERS

Should call 08705 444222 [Monday-Friday 9.00-17.00]
You will need to quote Affinity Code 423 and our Unique Scheme Number 335238
You will also be asked for your SIDC membership number

EXISTING AA MEMBERS

Should call 08705 444444 quoting the above Scheme Number and a Point of Sales Number 777496. You will also need to have your existing AA membership card.
