Are there any difference between a Holland Source UK Spec Subaru and a Genuine UK Spec car.

Are there any disadvantages with respect to buying an MY00 which was origionally imported from Holland.

Nope. Can't tell the difference as far as I know. I went to see one and only noticed it was a dutch import when I looked at the service book (in dutch). By then I had already decided to but it.

The same as UK as far as I'm aware

At this age not really. Uk supplied cars can extend warranties and are covered for a PPP upgrade under warranty. After the 3 years are up not much difference AFAIK. My dad was really dubioud about imports and didnt liek the fact I had a grey one. He brought a Mondeo recently and found out it was a german euro import. No difference except it was a lot cheaper than buying off a UK dealer and still brought it.

Security system will have been fitted by someone other than Subaru UK, which IMHO is a good thing as it'll be different to the standard which will confuse the potential thief.

The car was not provided with locking wheel nuts, so these should be added if they're not already there.

Underseal may or may not be quite as thick as a uk supplied model depending upon who you believe. Easy to remedy if you feel it needs it.

That is the extent of the difference, full stop. Any dealer, or anyone, tell you differently is misinformed.

Oh and a log book in Dutch No problem though as you just fill it in at each service. Should be able to get an instruction book in English quite easily, although one should be provided.

A number of us went down this route (buying from the EU new) including myself and (I think) Chiark.

Cheers

Yeah, just to add my five pence worth, I have a Dutch MY00 turbo and you can not tell it from a UK car. It came with a Dutch service book but an English handbook and has caused me no troubles at all. Servicing etc is exactly the same as a UK car. The Dutch cars on sale seem to be cheaper than their UK equivalents so they are all good news AFAIKS.

Interestingly, the Pug 206CC I've just imported for the missus has an English service book. So in this case, there really is no difference between a UK-supplied one and an import (French in this case), apart from the warranty (2 years versus 3 years).

You can tell mine is an EU Import from a mile off

its Sonic Blue, which wasnt available in the UK, unless P1 or 22B

I believe Aircon was an option on EU, and not standard

Air con was an option on MY00 UKs. Quite a few EU came with it though. My MY00 grey import has full climate control as standard and its new rally "sonic" blue

Don't forget the TERZO - it was a UK car in sonic blue.

Only 333 were made and I know a lovely one (No 290) for sale!!

Also depends which car you are talking about - The UK STi has that little badge that says "Type UK".

Thank God the Dutch car doesn't say "Type Netherlands" - it would increase the weight of the car!!!!

Simon

PS
I have ordered a MY03-STi from Holland. Even though Subaru UK have knocked a couple of grand of the cars in this country you can still save £3K abroad.

Question

Does anyone else reckon that the 'Type UK' badge is actually just there to make it clear to dealers that the 'rip-off Britain tax' has been paid on the car?

Given that there's next to no difference otherwise, I think there's an argument that it's just so that dealers can easily tell when to refuse service or give derisory trade-in prices for a car even they couldn't otherwise distinguish from a UK model?

Chiark, tsk, tsk imagine forgetting about the lack of badge/sticker on the bootlid with something like 2000 AWD on it

As everyone else has said, there is no real difference

Cheers guys will defo go and view the 16,000mile 'X' plate I have in mind then.

Your right about the security as this one has a full Cobra set-up rather than the Sigma stuff.

I can't see how you can go wrong as long as you get a good price. Most EU imports at that time cost around 15-16k - I got mine for less than 15k all in.
So if you were to buy one it should now be much cheaper than an UK sourced car.
I have a mint DBM MY00 with 33k and would be happy if I was selling for 10k.

Yeah I got the Cobra alarms system as well. Was done through a Subaru dealer but they put it out to a 3rd party to do.

As long as the warranty is extended to 3 years or longer you will have no problems.

Simon.

Traditionally Holland or Belgium were the best, I assume this is still the case.

I got my one (MY00) from CITO Autobedrijf BV in Rotterdam. Go to the Subaru web site for your chosen country and get a list of all the dealers in the town with the best port for you, then just send a fax to each one.
Would recommend checking with a friendly UK Subaru dealer and mention your plans to import giving an example price, you may be surprised at how close they can get to it.

Brendy,

If you are thinking of selling your DBM then please contact me as the 16,000 mile one I looked at didn't want to move 'at all' on the advertised price.

Please mail as per profile.

chrisp,

Check out the following sites (unfortunately you will need to read / speak either Dutch, Flemish or French - apart from the figures in Euros):

wwww.subaru.nl
www.subaru.be

As far as Litchfield Imports (www.litimports.co.uk) I can strongly recommend them.
I have ordered a MY03-STi from Iain. He has been one of the most helpful blokes I have ever come across. Absolutely nothing is a bother and if you want it he can sort it out for you.

Very refreshing British service.

Cheers

Simon

PS
Anyone know how to set up the direct web site links on here???

my car came direct from Gertjan van der velde in holland. They are a subaru dealer in holland, close to the ferry port and VERY experienced at doing UK spec imports.

http://www.subaruvdvelde.nl

I would check the prices though as if as Simon said with litchfield you get 3 years warranty and the great service too, then it might be better there. http://www.litchfieldimports.co.uk
