OK.

I'm looking at getting myself a scoob for about £8k - £10k, currently I have a MK4 Astra 2.2 and have managed to avoid any costs except a couple of services at £120 each and 2 new tyres at £60 each.

I notice that scoobs seem to be a tad expensive to run but cant find anywhere something that breaks it down into how much (roughly) things are going to be.

I reckon I could get a turbo on an S or T plate for my budget and insure it for about £100 a month but what about the rest?

How much will the following cost me and/or how often do I need them:

Basic service
Major service
Tyres
Oil change
Cam belt change
Clutch
Discs and pads
Road tax

and what about the rest??

UK Car - Based on Main Dealer Prices

Basic service - 150
Major service - 500 plus
Tyres - approx 100 a corner
Oil change - 100 ish
Cam belt change - As part of major serivce (500 plus, depends if cam bet tensioners are fooked or not)
Clutch - Engine out job 750 plus
Discs and pads - Depends on what brakes i.e. 2 pot or 4 pot etc

But its still one hell of a buzz, and plus if your not bothered about keeping a Full Subaru SH you can get it done cheaper else where.

Road tax - Same cost as yours

If you're willing to get your hands dirty, the simpler jobs (various oils, brake pads /discs and filters) can easily be done on a driveway. This has saved me quite a bit.

Of course, you could do all the servicing yourself, but you need plenty of time and a good understanding of how it all works (unlike me, but I just ignore that )

It is well worth letting someone who knows what they're about looking at it occasionally though.

As Danny-boy said - budget for a new clutch every so often. It's not an engine out job, only the gearbox + exhaust + intercooler + loads of crossmembers, driveshafts & bits. (I've done it that way - with plenty of help from an independant garage) at a cost of £280. It's still an all day job even if you know what you're doing.

Does the servicing for a sport work out any cheaper?
