I am really considering buying a private plate for my scooby as she is getting on a bit now and i don't want people to realise how much of a pikey i am.
Do you think they are worth it? (i was going to spend a max of £250 with the DVLA) or shall i save the money for more important stuff like the new clutch i will soon need! ha ha.
Also, does anyone know the legality of those square E*O type front plates?
Thanks in advance for all opinions..........mmmmmm... maybe should have tempered that with "all considered opinions".

I would only buy a plate if it has a meaning to you or the car.I think it's a waste of money to p/p it so that you don't know the age of the car.
I have a H reg car and am not at all bothered what other ppl think.
You have a scooby,wether it's a k reg or 03 reg,be proud of it!Don't worry about the age.

p.s i have a plate on mine H 9AVE.

Nothing wrong with making money either! Not that you bought your plate for that,i think is stupid to private plate it just to hide the age.
I understood your first post btw.

I was going to get a scooby related one ie. PPP, 555, SUB, SRT or WRC etc. Seems to be slim pickings left though!

Thats what i was thinking, in fact a couple of the ones i was considering will actually be an older Reg. letter than the present one. So not quite sure what i meant by hiding the age.
Do you know if you get any money back from the existing plate or do they just stick it on retention in case you sell your private plate?

You are not allowed to get a plate that makes the car look newer anyway.

I've got xxxxx, 1 number\letter off my slang surname\nickname, instead of a 51 plate

They are only really an investment if they are ever realised and most buy plates to keep or pass down mainly because they are personal to them or theirs.
You read some wild figures that are actually never achieved, saying something is worth a figure is one thing actually getting it is another.

Some plates look great, some look complete poo but at the end of the day it's up to you.

Also, it may be wise to arrange alternative insurance for your plate, as if your car is written of you may lose it(DVLA will not re-issue total loss numbers)
It would be wise to check on this.
I only found out about this today.

Will speak to DVLA tomorrow and post results

Funny enough a friend at work just pirchased his private plate from DVLA fro only £250, when he saw the same plate on sale for £399 from one of the reg companys... Anyway, he looked into the insurance bit and was quoted £35 per year.!!!

Cool

I have got M4X WB - Paid £250 for it from the DVLA.

Couldn't resist as my name is MAX W.B.

Wasn't even looking for a plate but one day a friend found it on their website (DVLA's), had a plate made up and stuck it to the front of my car. I was sold.
