Since picking up my STi on Sunday, I've encountered something that's never struck me before.

Is there really that much of a difference between the 'Classic', 'Bugeye' & 03?

To me, and I suspect many of you, there is an enormous difference between something like my old P1, and my new STi. If that's the case, how come nobody else seems to see it?

A few examples.......

1. I arrived home in the STi on Sunday, and my neighbours first words were 'are you getting your new car soon?'

2. I went to my local optimax shop yesterday, and they thought I'd washed the P1! The best they could come up with was 'the lights are different, but the rest is very similar'

3. The final straw was when my daughter got home and told me that after her friend's mum had parked behind the STI this morning, his first words to her were'when's your Dad getting his new car?'

Even my Wife said she couldn't see much difference

Are they all blind, or are we just a sad old bunch of t0ssers?

Discuss.

Is this the twilight zone or something!!

I finally sell my P1 to a decent guy this Friday but am waiting 4 weeks for my new STi. I do think that the new shape is more like the classic lines than the most recent bug eyed version front end.

I think to the ill informed observers the wing on the back, a similar blue and the oval headlights might, only might, look similar.

I do hope not though but there again who cares what everyone else thinks, we just love them!

I agree. In fact my neighbour's reaction to being told it WAS the new car was 'but.....it's blue'

So far, not a single non-subaru owning friend of mine has noticed the new car, and I was just beginning to wonder.

Which is kinda ironic, given the amount of hell-raising there was on here when the bugeye version was first introduced.

Just goes to show, with time, we can get used to anything. Well, almost anything!!

They just see the same (ish) blue, big spolier, big wheels and big exhaust. Could be any old Subaru . Shame the new ones are slower though .

i have dumped my MY01 for a 3 yr old passat V6.

because its a VW, V6 with leather etc ppl assume i have spent thousands more on it (as opposed to the reverse).

"i bet thats nicer than the subororr" is a comment i've had more than once.

T

ps- they are right...it is nicer...but thats another story

Tiggs,

I'm sure it's nicer but is it "better"? (you know what I mean )

Yes Matt, they are, but many of us are also sad old t0ssers

Josh

PS I'm sorry, but I can't understand why they can't see the differences. They're hardly subtle.

A friend of mine at work said 'I don't think your car looks much really, the other one on the car park is much better....'

Mine a UK 98MY Turbo, low spoiler, etc...

'The other one' turned out to be a UK300 !

Perhaps I should be thankful that she even noticed them >?

I changed my WR Blue UK300 for a Blue/Black STi7 as having a different colour made it seem more like a new car to me (and other less enlightened people as well)

I did tell some of the local kidss that I'd just had the same car re-sprayed though...and they beleived me

They will soon see it is a new car when they marvel at how quick you pull off from a standing start.

Or haven't you noticed that yet ?

Unhappy

it may be because i have a 99 classic, but i just dont feel the urge/desire fire in the belly to buy the new scooby...having drooled for a few years over the classic..i got my 99 uk turbo with some goodies..like making a deal with the devil....true joy to own..( fuel servicing saxo boy racers apart) ..but..you ask me what i would change it for..seriously change it for money wise..sti 7 ( if you bought it...why????) sti8..mmmm its ok..subarus arent meant to be "ok"...so that leaves me waiting to play with a focus / evo..bmw/audi...tvr's not quite in the price range yet...but not a scooby..may change my mind in 2007..having say'd that...for the money..you get a fair bit..aggghhh im so confused...

You cheeky git Tony!

Funily enough, on the subject of weight, although I know the STi is heavier than my P1, and despite much of that weight being at the front, it actually feels much lighter

Obviously I haven't played too much as it's only got a couple of hundred miles on it, but the handling is vastly different to the P1, and feels far more nimble and sure-footed.

Josh,

You can't say that - all the "classic" () shape owners will now come in here and tell you how you are wrong etc....

Chris,

Should you sign yourself 'bitter and twisted'

I loved my P1, and it was a superb car, and I still think it was about the best looking Impreza they ever made, but things move on.

The build quality and finishing are far better, and the ride is far smoother. It's just a shame that the power comes in so smoothly now that you don't get the same kick in the back you got from the 'classic'

We'll have to see what it's like next week with the PPP.

I think the point is that us "scoobiests" notice way more than the general public. I changed the bug-eys for morettes and stuck a big spoiler on.... my other half couldnt see any changes until i pointed them out to her...

We are a bunch of sados im afraid!

I think this reiterates the feeling of many classic Scoob owners...
the revised Scoob is not an improvement that is justified by selling your classic for 10K and spending 15K on top. Especially when u look at the interior.. very disappointing. I'm waiting for an all new 3litre Impreza.

Tiggs mate you are really showing your age!!

Josh,
Wish I could afford to buy a newer Scoob then I could understand what you are going through..

Haven't seen the STI 8 yet.. looked over an 03 it is a definite improvement over the 02 but still looks very big when it is only a small bit bigger than the classic.. the styling and body shape makes it look huge.. but then I had an objective view as I knew I couldn't buy one.

Don't see what all the fuss is about i much prefer my my02 allbeit with the morette head lamps but i think they should of just made them standerd, problem solved.the 03 is even uglier IMHO
