I drove up the M1 from the M25 to Nottingham yesterday
No problem up there as I got Optimax at Newport Pagnell
BUT It appears that on the way back the same services was changing from Shell to Texaco

IS this true & how do i get to TSL & Back now without a pit stop ??

cheers
Paul

Quite easily.

You full up before you get on the M25 then fill up if you need to in Nottingham, as I know there are Shell garages there.

Or you use the M11 and A14 as the A14 has a shell garage which stocks Optimax in both directions..

But watch the camera's.. forward facing and rear facing on the A14 but all nicely signposted and bright yellow..

Hold on a minute.. you cannot get from Nottingham to where you live on one tank??! flip how fast are you traveling mate

Take a couple of cans?

Are you sure you stopped at the same station? Between junction 11 and 16 there are 3 service stations i think, the middle one is the one with optimax northbound and southbound.

Question

I stopped at I think Keele southbound where they had run out of Optimax. They had SUL but it was Texaco . Even the receipt said Texaco SUL so it wasn't a short term thing.

Im 99% sure that some of the petrol stations on that part of the M1 are BP but i cant remember which,so you could put SUL in instead.

South bound Newport Pagnell services have had a mixture of Shell and Texaco pumps for many years. If I get bored tomorrow I'll walk the 300 yards there and see if anything has changed. If it's cold I'll probably have to drive though

I came down the M1 from Northampton on Wednesday and stopped at the KFC at that services. I had filled up with Optimax in Northampton as couldn't remember which sertvices had it on the M1.

I can confirm that they appear to be redeveloping the petrol station and the Shell pumps are currently out of commission, just leaving the Texaco ones. Whether they will in due course re-open the Shell ones and close the Texaco ones who knows.

The northbond station there is all Shell I think so may be this one will become all Shell. I have noticed recently that most motorway service stations appear to becomong BP, anyone else noticed this?

Also anyone else noticed that petrol prices seem to be sneaking up. Some garages in the south east appear to do Optimax at 79.9, others are 80.9.

Less than 2 miles from me I had 2 Shell stations, went one day and they too were both Texaco.

Shell stations seem to be disappearing although i read today that they made more profit in 2002 than any other European company.
5.6 billion to be precise. Down 23% on 2001.

Maybe they've gone into ****??

Rubber shellsuits maybe?

last time i checked, come off the jct M1/A5, i thinks its Jct 9 (towards dunstable/whipsnade).

come off the M1 (from north or south), head towards dunstable/whipsnade for approx 500m.

hey presto, TWO shell garages, one does Optimax etc for cars, the other is for truckers.

regards
chris

edited to say. you should be able to see the shell garages from the M1 as you go over the junction. (left side going north)
