Hi All,
Just reading Auto Express (page 14) and there is a write-up on the "STI model that could end the Japanese supercar debate with Mitsubishi once and for all" !!!!!!!
It will have a 3 litre turbo engine which will generate in excess of 350bhp (for the UK and Japan) but " unfortunately, we're having teething problems with the transmission as the current WRX STI six-speed box isn't capable of handling the torque the engine produces"
*** ALL QUOTES ARE FROM A SENIOR SUBARU SOURCE*** (but it does not say who?)
It sounds good but i wonder how this (3ltr) will affect the WRC cars and what will the EVO XII be pumping out?!
MAD!!!!

STI model that could end the Japanese supercar debate with Mitsubishi once and for all
So they can all go home & stop making cars now coz the new sti will win 'once and for all'???? until Mitsubishi make a car that will also end the debate once and for all, and honda make a car that will end it once and for all, and nissan will ma..........
Sounds like they're making a bigger engine to get the power gains (prob to ensure reliability & having less stressed engines) and will need improved gearboxes + a number of other components etc. I assume it's for an all new impreza as 2007 is 4 years away and plenty of cars will have been released in that time. the my03 will be 4/5 years old by that time thus will be in the latter part of it's life. Personally I think subaru will need a new overall impreza design by then as the current model is a facelift of the 2000(??) model so it will be considerably dated compared tot the opposition by then.
I wonder though, how the new saab hatch will fare (apparently has the engine, drivetrain etc. of the scooby).

I wouldn't be surprised if Subaru make a hatch (not unlike the saab which possibly is a test bed for subaru??) with the 2 litre engine for rally purposes given the extra weight the impreza will have on by then.
Purely speculative but that's what everyones doing at the mo unless someone knows anything definite.
