Cool

Since we are all japanese turbo enthusiasts here (Sorry Philip - I know you're still waiting to get 'turboed' ) Does anyone have any experience of the Lexus soarer twin turbo?

No, but I know of a very nice 4.0L V8 (non-turbo) for sale. Leather, auto, big wheels etc. Nice noise. :-)

Cheers

So.. !
Give me the lowdown. What do you get for your money with a Soarer? Are they cheaper to run (in any respect!) than a Scoob ?

Thanks

I have a mate in Arizona whos got one MY92 and had a go in it when I went over to see him.

Its a big GT cruiser and in american speak "fully loaded". Similar size to my old ford probe. Inside its more like a plane than a car . The centre console is full of switched and buttons. He had the SC400 edition 4.0 V8 I think ? It certainly went well and suspension was a quiet hard for an american car. The auto box seemed to hold the car back a little bit and sap initial aceleration. When it did kick down you new about it . It was a lot better than the brand new pontiac grand am that I had as a hire car .

cheers

I don't think it's entirely fair on either car to compare a Soarer to a Scooby. I thinks it's a lot more accurate to compare it to the MKIV Supra, 300ZX, 3000GT, or similar cars. A Scooby is a rally-bred medium sized 4WD fire-eater, whereas a Soarer is a large, big-engined mile-eating RWD GT. I'd expect it to be more expensive to run on EVERY count.

My other half was after one - i was told that the twin turbo engine is the same lump as found in the Supra twin-turbo. So i guess it sounds like a hoover then??

the soarer TT runs the same engine as the Surpa TT, but with a reduced stroke to bring the cc down to 2.5, still very powerful and pushing about 290bhp. they are fast reliable
cars, but one thing you should careful of is that the sales guy is not trying to badge it as a lexus.

A friend was running one for a while...

A big, heavy car - the doors are incredibly long and heavy. The hinges needed to carry them are also massive.

What else... oh yeah, a seriously impresive standard ICE system, a video game electroluminescent display panel with lots of inscruitable japanese characters on it and comfy seats.

A nice car if you're looking for a comfy GT I suppose.

Cheers,

Alex

Yes, had one undertake me on the Northbound M6 this morning, actually tailgating/undertaking/weaving his way past everyone! Judging by his number plate his name was GAV, complete to$$er, must still be saving for his Beamer!
