Is it safe to take an STi7 Prodrive (big rear spoiler) through the car wash? Any experience out there? I just don't want a bad surprize.

P1 manual says DO NOT put through a car wash. Guess it 's because of the spoiler. If you've got a big one I'd say NO but thats a guess rather than fact.

No.

Car washes recommend not taking any car that has a spoiler through a car wash.

So I wouldn't, if I were you.

With Subaru paintwork and you're gonna put it thru a carwash lol, Jet Wash would be ok, but you're prob better off doing it yourself

Don't put it through a car wash.

1. You could loose the spoiler
2. The paint is so soft you are likely to get horrific scratches all over it.

Never mind what the book says I would never never never never take a car through a rotary wash, for one thing they will scratch the paint, for another they never get all the crap off and lastly I find it much more rewarding knowing that Ive doen all the work myself

You can but a decent Jet wash from halfords for £100, thats maybe 30 odd Car washes to pay for itself on one car alone, well worth the investment. I use a jet wash to get the loose stuff off the car then go over it with a sponge and bucket, lastly a rinse with the Jet wash again and then leather and wax or polish it

Put my MY99 with STI version 5 wing through the car wash once but never again.
Actually the brushes are ok but it's the automatic dryer that is likely to hit your wing thus damaging it.

don't do it there's a 99% chance to damage your wing!!

I put my STi7 with high spoiler through a car wash once, never again - the spoiler survived but the paint work has minute circular scratches all the way through it - from one wash!

I'll take some polishing to get it sorted. I always handwashed it and one day got lazy - never again.

You had more luck than me then I got a serious deep dent in my wing and had to get the whole thing repainted.
Luckily the gas stand paid for the damage as they knew that day there was something wrong with their car wash.

Never ever put yoour scooby thru an automatic car wash. With that spoiler you'll land up with damage and no come back on the garage.

Far safer to wash by hand or if you like I will prep yer car for you.

Big Dude - I will gladly swap my ironing board for your Prodrive spoiler before I'd let you put it through the car wash. I'll even (Swissol) wash and (Swissol) polish your car (once!) as part of the deal!

Please - don't put your car through the auto carwash, you WILL regret it big time. I did it with my last car and would never, ever, do it again - once was enough to show the damage from the fibre brushes.

If my car is filthy I'll use the "rinse" option in the jet wash (never the wax option) and just hose it down a bit and then wait until I have time to wash and wax her properly.

The results of doing it properly, and by hand, are truly amazing - especially with the Swissol gear.

So...do we have a deal for your spoiler?

BigDude

I have a mate in Geneve who will wash it for you, provided you let him drive it for an hour first

There's a lesson to be learnt from the gentleman who had to replace the rear wing and boot lid on his 22B a few years back after taking it through a car wash!

Always Always jet wash any car, never put the car through a car wash, the paint work will go dull and have horrible swirl marks in it.

The Swissol treatment not only gets the car clean but when the car is left to sit out in the sun (December in Provence in this case) for a couple of hours, it seems like the paintwork gets darker (I have not manipulated these pics at all). I gave my car a good going over on the 26th December when these pics were taken.

Car wash? Never again!

OK guys, you all convinced me - NO automatic car wash!! Had the car since March and always did by hand but it's getting cold and I'm getting old so I was thinking about it, but not anymore.
No, STi-Frenchie, you can't have my spoiler. Your car looks good though with that Suissol. I've been wanting to post a picture of mine but I guess I still need to get a digital camera first.
