what does the MY bit stand for in MY03 for example, when stating the year of a car?

In the introduction to the book "You and your Subaru Impreza Turbo" it states MY stands for Model year.

It would be model Year as the cars were always released the previous Autumn, Model Year 00 cars would be released in autumn 99 etc.
