Well at least give you reasons for suggesting this.

Judging by the people buying the new 03's I would say not

Strange thread

Never even contemplated having a go at a scooby, thought any standard or not would wipe the floor (uk MR2), but i read on here people have bother from mondeo lx's, and civic type-r owners claiming their faster end of story, i have a go at every type r i ever see and usually come out on top...maybe the new scoobs arn't all that, running on the old cars reputation. I always had em down to be one of the quickest (common) cars on the road.

Possibly

I'm the young un' in my office and steve the senior planner says he always sees neds in scoobys. I always argue back and there is some good banter back and forth

Today I went over to get money out the bank and as I crossed over the road an MY00 with v. loud zorst and youngish driver pulled up. I could see steve heading towards me so I pointed at the scooby in 'look at the quality impreza' fashion. Steve smiled and shook his head - a short of real life ''

I said, 'she a nice one, can't argue they are great cars'
Steve said, 'looks young and ned like to me'
I said, 'nah, he's ages with myself and looks sensible'

At that point there was a brake in the traffic and the scooby driver attempted to do a turn in the road by going full lock and dumping the clutch. The diffs were having none of it and didn't send enough power to the rear so he almost nailed a parked car. He then fiddled around totally blocking both lanes before driving off at speed

I know we all have our moments but after that steve smiled and shook his head. I walked away as the arguement was lost this time

hmm i wonder, it's only taken other companies (ford, renault, honda etc) about 10 years to bring out a competitor, which are all 2wheel drive and about the same (no cross the board beaters in this market anymore ... - well until the 2.5 Sti8 comes out over here )

The Jap scoobys still outperfom most other cars in the UK.
But the UK scoobys are now being put up against (and out performed in some cases) by cars like the nrew Focus RS etc...

I think its time the UK scoobys came with the same spec that the Jap scoobys come with. Then they will be ahead in the field. It must be a relativly easy move as the technology is there in Japan, and the Damn UK scoobys are built there....

*spelling*

Ozzy, steve drives a 1.8T passat. He was hung over when he bought it and had to phone up 2 days before he collected it to ask what model of volkswagen he'd bought for insurance purposes That is how interested he is in cars

Shameful if you ask me

No denying its an amazing car. A cool 300bhp is a nice marker
IMO, and my opinion only, the TypeR and TypeRA are do, because they are slightly quicker and a bit more 'raw'

only my opinion though

Does it have to be new? List of STI is £26000 before ppp, you can get far more serious second hand motors for that cash

Umm £31500 new, guess you could get a good one for £26000 they were out in 2000 wern't they? i think that'd be preferable.

I have been wanting and saving to get my my02 scooby for a couple of years now and the amount of stares i get and the rarity of the scooby makes it all worth while. There are way too many bmw's out there and as said for the money new you can't get any better.

I bought my WRX last year because of it's reputation. Looking around now i wish i'd waited as the 'competition' has changed. A few years ago it was the evo's, skylines, supras, M3s etc.... now it's the hot hatches scooby drivers are competing against... and more often thhan not the scoobs loose. I didn't buy my scoob to compete with Civics and RSs, I thought i was one step up from that... i was wrong.

so... my quick answer, yes!

Thumbs up

I think the image of Subaru has changed and not for the better- a few comments I have recieved since buying MY96 Wagon- "wheres your baseball cap", "thats a P*ki's car", "tosser!!!!" etc. These cars now have the Saturday night cruise image (even my wagon!!!!!!). It doesnt bother me though 'cos for 7K I have the best car I've ever driven.

As for competing with CTR's and RS focus all I can say is their vehicles cost between 2 and 3 times the amount I spent and judging by the tyre scrabbling take off achieved by a recent "competitor" in a silver CTR all I can say they got bad value for money- I left the CTR for dead upto 80 until he found some traction by which time I'd eased off for the speed camera- he didnt and got flashed!!

to be perfectly honest, in the wet or on twisties you can forget just about ANYTHING as regards competitors.

i live on the isle of wight before anyone starts jumping up and down. the roads were made for rally slags!

frankly, most stuff with front wheel drive, especially in these wet and slippery conditions, on the roads over here at least, might aswell stay in the garage! and yes i have owned powerful front wheel drive cars over here in all conditions.

scrabbling for fresh ground springs to mind.

in the dry, as one would expect, they can fly with the best of them (to a point, as roads are so bumpy and camber-ridden), but really in the wet over here, trying to give fwd any wellie, is an accident waiting to happen.

all IMHO of course!

Not sure if it's the Scoob that's losing the reputation, more like the market being saturated by bad cheap imports, 18 year olds buying MY93 WRXs to show off, "boring" drivers buying them but never "driving" them.....

I could go as far to say that even Scoobynet is starting to lose it's edge now.

I haven't seen a few names on here for a while. 6 months ago I really enjoyed SN, now it's proliferated with "My car is faster...", "Who's the best..." and other repeating non-interesting threads which crop up regularly.
It's turning out to be one huge Muppet Show site (no offence Muppets )

No flame suit on here, mho that's all.

I bought my scoob cos I wanted one, I saved up for one and I thought they were the dogs danglies. I really didn't care for what anyone elses opinion about them was and still don't.

Any negative coments i get are never to my face, always after i've walked past someone and even then it's from people who will never be able to afford a knackered Sierra, let alone a scoob.

Other scoob owners who know what they are all about i.e its not all about speed, and other "serious" performance car owners still carry a flag for the scoob because it is 'kin fantastic and a benchmark for most performance cars (Supercars excluded).

Keep ya eye out for how the MY03 and MY04 flies off the shelves when Solberg and Makkinen raise the profile of the scoob again ala Burns and Mcrae (sp?) stylie in this years WRC championship

Enjoy and don't worry about what people think. It's your car not thiers. Find some "twisties" and have a laff You'll soon remember that scoobs ARE cool!

wagons will always rule anyhow!

i am doubful that they have the same rep, in spite of above comments, i still get the "what is it" which if i was a p1 owner et al, i am doubtful would occur.

STI's are fast in any language. They are just too common today, everyone knows about them and so they are perceived as boring. The new shape and the reduced power didn't help either.

Old shape is best and faster (STI/P1).
