Sorry mods, she only got 14 views in a whole morning in 'insurance' and the renewal is very soon. Besides, the information could be useful to the general masses
When I got my VTS it came with 1 years free insurance and I hadn't had an insurance policy in my own name prior to that. I completed that year and was given a 6 year NCB by the company with the option to protect. I took this and subsequently bought the scooby because my insurance was very cheap given my age and lack of actual no claims.
Its now renewal time again and I've been fully insured in my own name for 2 years but still have my 6 years NCB. The renwal is still very good considering but I'm sure that I could do better if I phoned around declaring a 6 year no claims.
Can I legally do this? If I phone for quotes can I only say that I've got a 2 year no claims or can I say 6 given that thats what my current company have awarded me.
Thanks in anticipation

Get confirmation from Citroen in writing (new insurer will ask for this confirmation anyway) and whatever it states on there is what you will have to go with.
My understanding anyway

Same thing for me Saxo Boy. I just changed from Citroen Insurance to Liverpool Victoria this week cos they were over £100 cheaper. I said I had 3 years to them which is what I've actually earned whereas Citroen were still giving me the bonus of 6 years.

strictly soeakign yuo should have max (7 years).
If they release you with 6 years (plus the time yuou ahve been with them) then you are laughing.
I doubt this will happen, but regardless, 2 years is 40%, and the bulk of discount comes from the first year anyway (30%).

Good chance you could have.
I binned my first car (an Uno). Replaced it with a Clio that I insured through Renault Insurance. £270 fully comp with a fresh write off at the age of 20 - not bad!
Stayed with them at renewal - although it became RAC Insurance then. 3rd year I moved to Churchill and when RAC sent confirmation of my NCB to Churchill, they refunded me £100+ as Renault / RAC had given me 5 years NCB.
Have carried it through to Privilege since with no problems

Well that is interesting. I have to send confirmatiuon to my new insurance company so when it comes with a bit of look it will have full no claims as they said I had on the phone.
Saxo Boy, just give them a ring and ask for a letter. Customer service number is 0870 125 6616.

Cheers guys I think the safest option is to phone other companies but to make them aware of the situation so that they can't use it to get out of any future claim.

I thought it was upto the new company to find out this once you have changed.
Difficult one. It depends how another company views being given free NCB years ?
Incidently each company views maximum no claims on there terms i.e some companies say you don't have full claims until you have 4,6, 9 years. Mines 4 years which is better because it is a shorter time to get to full discount so your paying less, this can go against you if you change to a company that works on 9 years even if you have never ever claimed and been insured for 15years like me ?
Its a strange world is insurance and they'll twist it which ever way they can so you pay more
