How Many Miles Has Your Scoob Done?
#1
Going back to the fact that most speedos over-read by about 10% (today @ indicated 70 - true 64 via GPS) it occurs to me that will also mean that your odometer will have 10% more miles than you actually have ever travelled
Now I reckon this has an adverse affect on 2nd hand values as cars appear to have done more miles than they actually have!!!
Thats 5K less for a 50K car & 10K less for a 100K car...
Worth thinking about

38K N-reg series McRAE, but it has had 17`s on for the last 2 years that would make the speedo more accurate, so maybe its about 36k????

Most of you aren't trying!
I have 49K on my mine and it was registered in April 01. I have had it since Feb 02 and have done 32K of those miles. Wonder if I have used a tanker of fuel yet, my wallet says I have!

Actually a lot of the inaccuracy in the speedometer is to do with the interaction with the spring that drives the needle round. This bit doesn't apply to the mileometer. So although the mileometer is still inaccurate, it's nowhere near as inaccurate as the speedometer.

Hi Puff,
I've also noticed a difference between GPS speed and indicated speed. My car (MY98 with 17s) appears to be more accurate around the national speed limit but is WAY out further down ie a GPS 30 mph is an indicated 35 approx on my speedo.
Though I guess as it gets more accurate close the the national limit and as a fair proportion of my miles are motorway miles, maybe my mileage is not too way out - 46, 000 by the way.
Cheers
