Help VW Golf R32 or keep Scoob?
#1
Need some help peeps,
I provisionally ordered a VW Golf R32 back in September last year, got a call from dealer today saying that VW had contacted them for confirmation and colour / spec etc..
Currently have 15 month old UK300 which I bought new (dumbass, I know)with only a measly 8k miles.
Question is - should I change to R32, get hit with more depreciation and loose more money. Also defecting from Scoob after the UK300 being my 3rd Scoob.
OR
Keep the UK300, decat the centre and have the ScoobySport ECUTech 260bhp upgrade costing total of about £900 and stay loyal to Scoobs.
Please help me decide.

No right or wrong answer here IMHO. Ive sold my Leon Cupra R and my R32 arrives in 10 days. I keep thinking should I stuff the R32 (sell it at maybe even a small premium) and buy my 8th Scooby. But the R32 has some unknown lure. One thing that concerns me with the R32 is that every boy racer will want a go, and I'm not sure the R32 has the B****** to see them off. If I go for the Scoob I can wave goodbye to a few grand the day I drive it out. Something the R32 wont (for a short while at least)

I'm sure you can squweeze the R32 in before the Sti8 I'm know you will eventually want, anyway the PPP is not out for it yet, probably 3 to 6 months to go. I'm sure thats long enough for another little distraction.
What did you think of the Leon Cupra R, any better than the standard Cupra. I tried a Cupra for a month or two between the MY01 WRX and my MY02 STI7,great value but a bit tame.
may go EVO8 next though not sure yet.

I think you might be right . The Cupra R has been OK. Great value for money motor. Ive lost very little on it in 4 months. Its a better car than the std Cupra (wife used to have one). Lot better chassis, but you have to put up with a poor ride on rough surfaces. Engines just losening up now its time to go

A guy that shares my garage out here in Germany has an R32 and I must admit it sounds lovely, better than the scoob in standard form i think, but at the end of the day its still not a better drive, not as quick and doesn't look as good IMHO.
The R32 is a good car but I would not buy one myself especially if you already have a UK300.
Are they out yet in the UK as I saw one on the road last week when I was back home and did not think they were due out till march, saying that it could of been a press test car.
Regards,
John.

I'd stick with the UK300 and mods. Its barely run in after all.
R32 from all the reviews is coming out as more of a grown up GT in the way it drives (nothing wrong with that if thats what you want). When all new Mk V Golf comes out in 2004 residuals bound to slide on R32 so wouldnt plan on keeping it too long.
All IMHO

from wot i heard the R32 is a very heavy car although i dont know how it compares to the scooby in that factor.
the golf doesnt look that much from the ordinary model which is a good factor when thinking of the theiving scum that r about compared to a scoob that stands out and shouts 'nick me'
write ups on the golf have been very good and AWD is an added attraction, especially if ur coming away from ur 3rd scooby that u have got used all with AWD
for me tho the golf is majorly over priced but i love the shape it
Y r u getting rid of the scooby anyway, r u not happy with it?

From what I have read the R32 is a good car, but the current Golf is at the stage where they are going to revise the looks (just like they have done to the Scoob) in the near future. If you made a loss on your current Sccob, do you want to make the same mistake with a Golf?

Sideways.
Leather isnt std and costs quite a lot £1900, but IMHO the car deserves it. The car all in cost me £24,600. That included uprated stereo as well. A lot for a Gold, but with such high demand the residuals will be high. Even when the new MKV hits sometime in 2004 there wont be a 3.2 from the off.

Just cancelled my R32 order today, dealer could only get a underwrite of £15250 for my UK300 (was priced at £19k in September), R32 would arrive in May, UK300 would be worth even less. I ain't chucking away £10k after just over a year.
Could afford to go for the R32, but after this shafting by Subaru, don't want to waste more dosh on cars at the mo.
RB5 286, nothing wrong with UK300, love it to bits, I am just a wee bit cheesed with Subaru re.the MY03 thing, but nothing I can do.
I think a few people will get stung when they come to change their bug eyes, a lot of peeps will have more outstanding finance than the car is worth.
I have been lucky so far as I put quite a bit down on my UK300, but at this rate it will be eaten up soon.

When Mitsubishi fit an interior to the EVO that gets even to the std of of a Fiat 127 I will look at it. Whilst I could get my 4 year old to do better with playdo and a pack of smarties the EVO will remain at the bottom of my wish list. The EVO is an insult to performance cars IMHO.
