I am considering buying a P1, but was wondering why there are so many up for sale. Is there some sort of a problem with them. Also what should I look out for when viewing one. Thanks, Graham.

Only problem is that most are coming up to the end of there 3 year warranties that can be renewed I think. Apart from that I'm not selling mine - it's tooooooooooooo cool

i had one for 18 months and 10.5 k miles, never had any probs, car had full ss exhaust, alcons, 18's.
look out for crash damage, front spoiler chips badly, make sure wheels arnt kerbed, try and get one with some prodrive options as they arnt worth much regards second hand value.

Major thing to look out for is the stone chips on the front splitter. Later P1's came with Armourfend to stop this from happening so much. Other things to spot, I guess you should look out for one with the bigger Prodrive brakes, the normal brakes are ok but Prodrive are better.

Apart from that I'd look for a pretty much standard one with some warranty remaining, low mileage and no track day abuse, 18's would be nice but the standard 17's are good and you should be able to up the warranty to 5 years at an additional cost.

Things that I've had issues with are clutch judder, scratches on drivers window and that's it. Both are warranty items though

Good luck.

(ps - Be aware that some STi V5's (P1's) have gone bang with respect to full decat exhausts without ECU remaps, do your homework and you won't be disapointed )

No problems whatsoever with mine - its been a pleasure to own.

Agree with Mickle's comments generally. P1s more reliable than equivalent JDM imports but beware heavily modded cars seems to be the general message from browsing this BBS for the past 2 years.

Mines for sale at the moment. (See for sale section or email me for details).

Dont be put off by some of the doom and gloom stories believe it or not most Scoobs are v reliable.

As mentioned, it's just that most of them are 2.5-3 years old now.

Nothing major gone wrong with mine, and nothing that wasn't done under warranty. It's a great car, and I'll be very sad when it goes at the end of next week.

Will a P1 cope ok with plenty of mileage? I do about 25k a year. I do get full wood over P1s and would love one. How much is a major service for example?

As far as I can recall, the servicing costs haven't been much different to my '98.

Thumbs up

Early cars had issues with paint peeling from the rear spoiler by where its reads P1, But they should have been sorted now under warranty.

Only had a problem with the alarm on mine couldnt access the menu to program features, ie auto door lock when ignition turned on.
Alarm replaced under warranty.

A cracking car that turns heads everywhere it goes !!

All excellent advice. The one I've been looking at is a 2001 Y with 15000 miles on it. It's totally standard. They're looking for £21500. Does anyone know how many were actually made? With it being a special edition I thought there might have been a plaque in the car with the model number on it.

There were 1000 made, although initially only 500 were going to be built.

There is a plate on the near side of the engine bay with a number on it.

Agree with above.

All scoobs cost a few £ to run but my P1s cost no more than my prev MY98 or MY00.

I see the car you're looking at is £21.5k with 15k miles.
I'll sell you my July 2001 Y plate for less with 14k miles and Prodrive/Alcon Brake and Exhaust upgrade (£2k extras to fit new). Email if interested .

Edited to say mines no 992
Good luck
