Knocking sound.
#1
Guys,
Please help,
I can hear a clonking / knocking sound nfrom the rear of the car when travelling over bumpy ground, it sounds like a loose shock absorber or a knackered bush.
I had Eibacks fitted a couple of months ago - don't remember the sound prior to that though.

There is nothing rolling around in the boot before someone says it!

Assuming it's the Eibachs....
Check the alignment of the spring and the plate above it. There was something about this a while back. I think sometimes when they are fitted, they are not fully flush and can have some play in them and hence knock if not aligned properly.
Not sure on the full details but someone else might be able to help

possibly the springs not seated as already said, but check the following as well:
jack in the left hand side of the boot (has been known to rattle, even when it looks secure!)
top nuts on the dampers being loose
exhaust brackets
rear drop links and bushes (they do wear over time)

Your shock has gone, I know cos I've had it
to check lean on the quarter that the sound is coming from and see if you get any movement from the shock, you'll probably find that it's solid and won't move.
Your OK if it's in warranty you can get it changed if not then I hope you are having a good month
