Common Scooby Problems
What are the most common problems with Scoobs?
Having read some of the recent posts about people buying their first scoob, I thought it would be interesting to have a poll of scoobynetters to find out what problems they have experienced with their own car.
I have a MY01 New shape with PPP.
Since I bought it (March 2002 with 8k miles - now at 30k miles) it has had:
New Clutch W (W = Warranty) Badd judder when starting off from cold
New Wheel Bearing W Hummed like a choirboy!
New Windscreen - £50 quid on Insurance
New Alarm Unit - W Old one refused to arm in areas where there were automatic street lights (like supermarket car parks)
How does this compare?
Mak
(Edited to add the alarm bit..)

Had MY97 UK Turbo for approx 18 months.
Agree with Riftzone about the judder...very occasional. Other than that not a single problem. Only had to replace the usual items (tyres, pads etc). Looks like regular servicing has paid dividends.

Had a new clutch in my last two under warranty due to judder when cold. May as well have it done if its warranty
Other prob I have had it the window not seating properly on my RB5 (Last Car)
Alarm failure on 1st car but not an OEM system
Rubber seal around the lights on my UK300
Scratching a bit though, nothing major but I usually don't keep em that long anyway
Hope that helps

Had an MY96 (72k miles) for nearly a year and driven it for 10k+ miles...
1. clutch replaced
2. front dampers replaced
3. had to have 4 pot brakes
4. had to have different wheels (see no. 3...)
5. wanted a CD changer
6. need a new front splitter (thanks nkh
- we don't talk about that now though!!)
On the whole, it's not been too bad. (touch wood!!)

41,500 miles
MY00 UK Spec
20 months ownership from new
Always serviced according to schedule
Full Decat (Jap Innovation)
ITG
Dawes (About 30,000miles)
17's
Grp N Discs
DS2500 Pads
The ONLY thing that i've had to do with me car is have the clutch changed under warranty at 36,550 miles......which was nice!
. Not clutch judder (Although like most scoobs it does suffer from it, but ya live with it)
All in all, fabulous car, does exactly what it says on the tin. Quick enough for UK roads, goes where you want it, rattles a bit if you sit there concentrating on hearing it, but all in all IMHO a fabulous car. Not an investment, just damn good fun

Oh i forgot, numberplate bulbs seem to take a beating.Might be me starting up with me sidelights on all the time though

I have just joined this forum, I have had a 93 impeza 1.6GL since 1999 with 84,000 miles on the clock. No serious problems until recently.
I in the past six month's I have had :
off-side drive shaft needed replaced as cv boot split and eventually the cv joint got worn,
near side cv boot split recently but I am getting it replaced before another drive shaft is needed,
new battery,
a leak somewhere underneath resulting in the back seats getting damp in rainy weather,
clutch "slipping" under heavt accelation, but without the accompanying burning smell.
That's all so - touch wood.

Since ive owned my uk94 Scoob (2 years) done approx 30k now on 105k
Had:
New clutch (common and expensive £600)
New water temperature sensor
New battery
The common exhaust heat shield rattle
Rocker cover gasket oil leak
Normal service items (tyres, pads)
All I can remember but basicly very reliable / fine and it sounds like it could do another 100k.

Bought my MY98 turbo last sept with 38500 miles on it
with full subaru history from subaru dealer.
At 40000 miles developed a slight intermitant engine rattle at about 2700 rpm while on a spin up to the peak district.
THEN THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON !
End result-
A new crankshaft, clutch and flywheel plus bits and bobs !
All done under warranty !
Now a happy chappie!

Does this apply to the MY00 as well?

Common problems? I like driving mine too much, 47,000 in err, 14 months from new. Nothing's fallen off yet.
Just noticed that a stone chip by headlight has a bit of rust, better get that sorted pronto.
BTW, our R reg Sport now has 120,000, had to do rear wheel bearing (doh, garage only changed one!) but it's going strong.
:-)
