Question

Rang KT Greens at the start of the month for a quote on a 60 000 mile service. They have always been very good and I had no intentions of looking elsewhere to be honest.

Anyway get a quote of £400.00 plus VAT. Car goes in and I get a call to say needs new rear pads at £65.00 plus vat plus 30 mins labour. Give the go ahead to do the work and budget £550.00.

Invoice came today and its over £670.00. Rang and pretended to get new quote for service and I'm again told £400.00 plus VAT. OK so this includes PARTS AND LABOUR. Yes I'm told.

Does this sound a bit excessive to you guys. Only other additional parts were bulbs and replacing washer jet clips.

excessive indeed ! my 60k on a my99 cost me £380, all in (a few months back). rear pads had around 6k left on them and i got a call to say would I like them replacing - if so, would be an extra £100 (all in)...

We had a Sport in for its 60,000 service last October. Brake pads, wipers etc needed changing. The car felt great after. It came to £700 but it was a Company car so we didn't worry too much!

I'm sure others have had it cheaper by shopping around even across the dealer network if you are concerned about warrenty.

Riftzone,

It depends on it being a Sport or Turbo. All the fluids are replaced amongst other things on a Sport at 60K. The big services for the Turbo are at different intervals I believe.

rle - as yer'll see from the service schedule here, a 60k on my97 is the same as a my99 (changes from my00):-

http://www.riftzone.fsnet.co.uk/scoobservices.jpg

i reckon yer've been well and truly done - £480 all inclusive for a 60k service and rear pads. could have got the service for £350 (again, a subaru dealer) but would have meant travellin another 30 miles each way so didnt bother...

Well I guess the good news is I have not paid them yet.

Sent fax this morning to the directors and forwarded by recorded post. Put plenty of business their way over the past 18 months so I'm hoping they might knock me something off. Family run dealership who pride themselves on customer satisfaction. Well KT Greens here's a chance to prove it!!

They've come up trumps. Took them 24 hours to reply to my letter and they sent me a revised invoice for £200.00 less. Blamed a computer error which had calculated the labour wrong.

Dont really care but at least they've acknowledged their mistake and promptly resolved it.

They've just retained my business.

Don't get too smug - they /might/ have tried it on in which case you'll want to watch them closely - always!
