yeah I know you're all bored of these threads, but I'm just interested to know.
I have a 93 wrx which once I've received my chip should have between 280 & 290 bhp. Other mods are induction kit and hks exhaust.
However, my friend reckons he is gonna get an M3 evo and I'm just wondering what my chances are of beating it. ok it must have a higher top speed, but im just talking drag race style. Which would win???

Had a quick play with a buddy of mine on sat who has E46 M3 SMG, I thought he'd have no probs and i think he thought the same.... he was quite suprised when I still sat up his **** around 120-130, then I had to back off as I thought she'd gone bang, only to realise it was my passenger window that was vibrating and rattling wildly in the winder unit....

this has been tried before:

my old 93wrx (filter, boost controller, decat hks hiper) vs
pal's m3 e36 evo.

all i can say is drag style- depending on who doesn't mind screwing up the cluth, quite close so may go either way but
once hitting 80mph, m3 pulls away.............. hmm.... smell
of the exhaust fumes.....

even on bendy bits, not much between the 2 cars.

This is my opinion, if you don't like it - bollards!!!

Performance: though my scoobs felt quicker (punch of the turbo) when looking at the speedo etc in the bimma you really are moving quicker than you think. The 0-60 depends on who wants to be more brutal though the bimma just takes the edge for me. For all other performance the German wins hands down and once on cam in 4th and 5th it really pushes you back into your seat.

Everything else: for comfort and build quality etc the M3 wins hands down but the discussion isn't about that so its irrelevant...

Just be careful when racing your mate, if he knows how to launch the beemer (and its dry) he'll have ya. The closest test will be 0-60!!! Every other statistic he'll have ya...

Would be good to hear how you get on...

fantom,i approached a large roundabout the other night had to stop to give way to a m3 evo coupe dakar yellow pulled out behind him kept a good distance did"nt know if he would play or not,came to a small roudabout he overtook a car on it and sped up to another car(game on)he was now about 100 yrds and one car in front,the road opened up we both pulled out to overtake at same time perf safe no other traffic at all,in about 1/4 mile i drew him in to ten yrds,3rd gear upwards and into 3 figs.came to roundabout both had to stop,we both went for it through gears he was holding me up it seemed,but it would of taken alot of road to overtake.i made it look like i could pass him though, we came to another roundabout went diff ways he put his hand up to aknowledge me.
imho theres not much in it at all.

update for this thread:-

He now has an m3 and the scoobys running 260bhp and the evo can't get too far ahead apparently so when the chip is fitted it should be nearly the same!!...

The M3 evo is stunning tho and kicks *** when you get to high speeds!!!
