Hello

Just popped into my local dealer who gave me a good deal on my current WRX MY01 if I want to get my hands on the new STi.

Was wondering if you lot think its worth it? Is paying an extra £8000 worth it?

What do I get extra for my money?

TIA

Snoops,
Yes paying the extra is worth it IMHO.
Test drive first though.
I was at the motorsports show on Sat and Subaru had a stand there with 2 03 STI on it, they are very simular to the 02 car but with a few cosmetic changes, it looked ok but the bonnet scoop was, I think an after thought and looked just stupid on the car.

If you had a choice between the STi and the P1 which one would you go for and why?

Value for Money which is better?

Very tricky question. I bought a new STI in May against the P1 mainly because I wanted a new car and 3 years warrently. The P1 is a nice looking car, but most of them are 2 years old now. It all depends on what you want.

If i was looking for a 3 year old, the the P1 would be at the top of my list

IMHO STi/PPP shades P1 shades STi OEM. But, as pointed out, P1 is now 2+ years old (reaching end of warranty).

STi vs WRX: What you get for your money is a shedload of performance, better handling, better brakes, 6 Sp Gearbox, cosmetic improvements (tho' not the scoop in many peoples' opinions). In my view its worth buying STi over WRX + PPP + other mods, if that's an alternative you have in mind, though you can Mod up the WRX more cheaply than PPP at the cost of your warranty. Don't forget however STi will be more to insure and probably slightly less economical on fuel.

So, it depends on how easy it is to find the extra dosh, and what value you place on outright performance pleasure! Back to you, Snoops

I Believe that you should alway move forward and get the latest spec you can afford. I have an Sti8 on order for March and would only have bought the P1 at the time it was new if I had been in the market to change

P1 is a lovely car however and it can always come down to budgets regarless of a P1 being 2 years old

Personal choice really a question that only the individual can answer.

We are all different after all

Steve, was the March delivery your choice or is that when the dealer told you they were available? Only asking as my dealer told me my STI would be here end of Jan, first week of Feb!

The new 03 is far more than just cosmetic changes !!
There are completely new suspension mounts and angles , which give sharper turn in and also make the car less nervous during camber and bump ride changes. Anti Lift has also beed addressed. With far less camber change on cornering this helps grately with the Tyre contact area so More Steering , less OS more rear end Fun
Quality of ride is also improved greatly over the 02 and the P1

I would go as far as to say that after seeing some test times from a UK spec car in Japan that it will be quicker than all previous models. Inc the P1.That have run on the same track

I have owned 4 Scoobies and wait for it my 03 Sti is on my drive already

One thing i will say though is the bonnet in take ( scoop) is OTT and will be being replaced at some stage.

Waiting for some Power Mods soon

All the Scoobies are great cars in there own way ...
I have just passed my 01 Car onto my Partner , what a great car that was as an improvement over MY 00 and My 97 cars ( Except the headlamps which survived just 60 Miles On the Road before being changed ...........

Lucky you Tboner.

Can't wait to get mine.

May have to take my current car off the road soom as the tyres are a litle low 2-3mm and I don't want to have to buy a new set before March ? plus I want to ensure it is still legal when I take it in

Happy driving !

:P

Yep

do not drive on low tyres for sure at tghis time of year , last thing you want is to bend it because of low tyres , or get some part worn cheapies and thrash it around No only kidding ,

The new car is superb , there are other subtle changes that you will find as you go along , even the new wheel adds to the car

Enjoy when you get it
have U ordered the quick shift ?

Regards

Guys,

What sort of deals have you got at the UK dealers? Mine hasn't budged in price but hope to haggle for things like mats and mudguards. BUT if you guys managed to get anything I'll try again.

Doubt very much if any body will get a real discount.
My dealer is also a freind of mine , IM are geting massive enquiries for the 03 , when a car is in demand IM will not allow the dealer's to discount.

You may get the usual mat's etc at a push. But the dealers margins are so tight now with IM not alot to be had.

The new car drives diff.. to the 02 still kicks like a donkey though , think the PPP or other option for 300+ BHP with loads of torque will be the way to go .

Also been told that there are 750 cars earmarked for here but only 720 PPP's. Has this been a problem in the past, reason given was that they only make a small number of kits per week?

Its the same every year people say they are better, people say they are worse. At the moment they are getting heavier but not increasign the power. Power to weight drops, performance drops pretty easy calculation . Just ask yourself this question what exactly are people after, a family car with performance or a performance car that you can put the family in. There is a difference .

H'mm

Yes they get heavier , but they handle far better ,

Which i can testify to makes them quicker in 90% of Uk driving situations.

Tboner you jammy so and so. How did you manage to get hold of yours so quickly? I know IM have 150 or so stashed, but I haven't even heard of a dealer getting one yet.

Can't see any point whatsoever in waiting for the 03 plate, so I'll collect mine as soon as it arrives at the end of the month or beginning of next.

Sure but adding weight can only dent the performance, more weight to chuck about, more weight to brake etc. Just look at an elise when it brakes with its standard setup . They seem to do okay in the handling stakes as well .

Must admit I do think the 03 is a big improvement over the 02.
