The U.S. STI specs will be released in a couple of hours at the Detroit auto show. Scuttlebutt has it coming in with a 2.5 liter motor with DCCD for about $32K, likely cloose to 300 horsepower and 300 ft. torque. I will post specs in a couple of hours. Any reaction from you side of the Ocean? Many of us browse your great website. I am partial to the depravity on the Muppet Show.....

You guys likely will get a PPP option to get 300hp/torque. We probably won't get that option, so why wouldn't we want more power than your stock 260hp? Also note Mitsubishi just released EVO 8 here at 2 liters with 271hp/273ft, and Subaru will want to beat that for marketing purposes. Only way likely they could do it would be with a 2.5 on our gas/emissions. We shall see, but everyone is very excited over here about finally getting an STI, especially if it has performance specs equal to the Jap version (2.5 would about equal 2 liter twin-scroll Jap version).

Fantastic! There's a chance me and the wife will go out to the US in the Autumn (fall 
) to work for 18 months or so.
I'd be gutted about losing my Scooby but knowing they're over there (in proper form) is great to know. Always wondered how they get the power, thought that the US premium fuel is around 89 - 91 octane?
Only problem I guess will be getting insurance, starting from scratch

If the USA version is a 2.5 litre I will sell everything I own (couple pairs of dirty socks) and move over there....it will be the standard 2 litre turbo....
91 octane is about 95 - 97 RON and some places carry 93 octane which is 97 - 100 RON if I recall. There is also quite a few places that sell race fuel so I would not be too concerned about the fuel quality over there.

We get 92 octane in state of Washington where I live. Some areas (east coast primarily I think) can get higher. Calif. has 91, so manufacturers really have to tune for lowest common denominator, which is 91. Most folks over here also think Subaru would never give us an STI motor different from the rest of the world. I think we will get the 2.5 and people will be pretty surprised. I'll let you know in about an hour whether you have to sell your dirty socks or not. Kempo - Don't worry about insurance in the US - they don't have NCB so it doesn't matter how long you've been there. In fact, you don't even need a US license to get insurance. Expect to pay roughly the same as here for the same coverage, but it varies state to state.

JUST released U.S. STI specs:
2.5 liter with AVCS, making 300 hp at 6000rpn, 300ft-lb. torque at 4000rpm, full DCCD (manually adjustable). This is awesome news for us. First time I ever recall U.S. actually getting a higher performing car than rest of the world for a foreign manufacturer. Reactions?

To be fair, the US usually gets their cars cheaper than much of the rest of the world, so you can hardly complain that the performance isn't the same. A Prodrive style STI in the UK is £27995 - nearly $45000 - would you be prepared to pay that, or would you dismiss it as silly money?

Subaru have totally lost the plot releasing a 2.5 turbo in the USA and not the rest of the world.
So we get a non DCCD, 265BHP 2 litre, the USA gets a 2.5litre, DCCD equiped 300BHP car.
The mind boggles.

I doubt it's got a 2.5 litre engine. I suspect it'll have a 2 litre turbo, with around 260 Bhp. The old RS in the US had a 2.5 litre engine(from the legacy I think), but putting that in an impreza STI would require a whole lot of changes. The move is towards a global platform and i'm not sure this goes towards that goal

I think the 2.5 motor sounds sweet--forged aluminum pistons (didn't the new JDM STI get some kind of cast pistons?), forged carbon steel rods, sodium filled values. We even get, I think, forged BBS wheels, which I think may have only been optional in Japan. This is awesome news for us, and maybe Subaru just recognized the burdgeoning US market for the WRX and STI. Don't forget we are the only country that responded positively to the bug eyed WRX, and maybe Subaru decided to go extra for us for our support. Obviously the main factor, though , was the EVO 8 competition. But to give us DCCD, I think, is a real recognition of the high level of interest in a true STI in our country. This car is going to really gain Subaru a ton of respect over here.

Sounds a fantastic car and I don't blame the Americans for being excited about it. If anybody starts to have a go then they should direct it towards FHI, IM and Subaru

oh look...subaru shaft us again...not only do people loose ther shirts on the last style of car....they give the best to the u.s, they got to be kidding.....guess im gonna have to marry my sister and buy a trailor...then maybe subaru will get ther act together and give us the car we deserve...not one to be picky....but we get shafted for services/repairs...on mod's..its yet another nail in the coffin of my love affair with subaru...anyone got a phone number for bmw/tvr...

I am blown away !!!! I honestly can't believe that they are getting a 2.5 litre...that is awesome, the low down torque advantage over the JDM STI must be huge....that coupled with the active center diff must make this a EVO killer and possibly a Skyline killer...stock for stock ....unreal......I want one, time to sell the socks and head to the USA !!!! Congrats yanks

Had a scooby 1998 to 2000, loved it to bits but moved to Canada.
Watched the whole WRX thing with interest, suspecting it was all going to explode this side of the pond.

BMW, for example, are homologating (or whatever) their Works cooper worldwide, which involves the EU Certificate of Conformity messing around, plus federalization in the states, plus goodness only knows what in whatever other territory.
