Yep, that old chestnut again

I have just received a Zymol "Titanium" starter kit. Looks and sounds great when you initially read the blurb on the Zymol website however further reading has put a bit of doubt in my mind. In the profesional tips section of the Q&A it recommends an ambient temperature of 65'F (approx 20'C) to allow the wax to bond with the car?!?!? Not much chance of that in Scotland for 11 months of the year then! I don't mind the lengthy process of applying it as long as I get the long term benefits.

Anyway, does anyone have any experience of using Zymol during the winter? Have I bought the wrong stuff? Should I have bought Swissol instead?

Any comments appreciated.

taken from the boys at uk-mkivs.net forum....

'As for the outside temperature being above, if memory serves me correctley, 13 degrees. I wouldn't worry too much. Carnuba wax needs heat to bond to the paint. If it's not hot outside your car will still look the dogs danglies but the wax won't last as long. Chances are that if your willing to spend a ton on wax then your willing to wax your motor each month so your car will look good and the water will bead.

If you apply the wax by hand then the warmth from your hands will help it bond to the paint and it will be fine.

Remember that a little does indeed go a long, long way. If your having problems with it streaking when you buff it then your using to much wax.

In the summer after you have finished waxing your car go around it again with a clean polish clothe and a fine spray bottle, spray a little water (only a littel mind) and rebuff. You'll find the finish is outstanding. IO think the instructions recommend you leave it for a few hours but I have found after spending a couploe of hours waxing it. By the time I've finished it's ready for it's finally polish.

Hope this helps.'

any questions regarding zymol can be posted to them as those boys really like the zymol stuff.......there is a detailing and car care section on the main forum board.

I zymol'd my roof 2 weeks before Christmas (got dark before could do anymore) and I thought the result was good.

The rest of the car had been waxed 4 weeks before, the water beads on the rest of the car are like big blobs, whereas the roof is kinda misted small droplets on, seems to dry without water water marks on the roof also.

I'm not planning on doing the rest of the car now till the spring, I'll do a full clense / wax then

I would always say ZYMOL was the best you could get,I have been trained by them and for 3 years now used nothing but ZYMOL on mine and customers cars,However i have seen a big intrest in SWISSOL from you guys on scoobynet,I`ve sent for the booklet and product list and from what i can make out theres not a lot in it.
but in the new year i will contact SWISSOL again and see if i can get some samples, and maybe i test the both short and long term. But as for your kit its the same wax i use on my scooby,if you take your time you should be o.k. Its the h.d.Cleanse that does best part of the work, you may have to do a panel twice,The one thing is your car will look amazing,I`ve done old escort to new aston martin and all look great

How much clense should you use?

I did do my roof with it, but didn't really use lots of the stuff, found I still had some small "spots" I could feel while rubbing the wax on with my hands....

Does the clense stuff really get out any spiderweb patterns in the paint-work?

The cleaner does lift minor scraches out of the paint work.

You need to get it off before it dries and buff untill you hear the paint squeak (squeaky clean).

I use a little over smallish areas.

I am sure that they are both excellent.
In my case I have used ( and will continue to use Swissol) due entirely to the EXCELLENT quality of service and help/free samples made up for me etc which I have always received from Mark Underwood (Wizard of Wax).
I run an Oifield Service company in Aberdeen and would kill to have all my people as customer responsive as Mark.
His contact e mail is waxwizard@blueyonder.co.uk

Bugeye..be delighted to hear from you m8.

One thing with swissol is that you can wax the WHOLE car before buffing. It can also be applied in direct sunlight and onto hot paintwork and be left to cook (cure) for an hoiur or even a day before being buffed up.
We also do 3 varietys of cleaner fluid (cleanse) depending on the condition of the paintwork. Again can be applied in direct sunlight.
The most popular wax on this forum is Shield wax as it has Teflon added to it. This wax is a concours wax and therefore one gets max gloss with max longevity. This is the wax I use to professional apply to vehicles.

Bugeye..if you want to become a dealer I await your call or email. mark@swissol.com or waxwizard@blueyonder.co.uk
