22B if the want the closest car to a WRC car. Seam welded and bags of torque from that 2.2
P1 if you want the best car out of the box to deal with UK roads.
RA if you simply love speed and changing gear .

The BEST Impreza is what you asked for, so I guess the majority's opinion would be the P1. But ask people which Impreza they would really WANT if the costs, price etc were over-looked....
Simple !
IMHO .... 22B everytime.

For me...
Classic UK Car brilliant as standard
P1 too soggy
Classic STi good but needs tweaking
22b look fabulous but too variable - I have been in some real dogs
Bugzilla STi PPP excellent handling but needs more power
S202 reputedly brilliant
Spec C 'closest thing to a WRC', Petter Solberg
R19KET the best impreza I have ever had the pleasure to drive

I find UK suspension far too sloppy for the UK roads - well I did have GAB suspension on mine, so even wooden blocks as suspension feels sloppy.

My UK was far better on rougher road than my RA with STI suspension. The STI 5 suspension was removed on the P1 to more suited UK softer suspension so with same bhp it seems it would probably be better on rougher type road. The flip side of that is that on smoother better quality roads (like the Japanese have) the RA would excel.

Would you not entertain the thought that maybe different driving styles would affect this aswell?
Personally I prefer the stiffer (oooh er) set up for driving on UK roads than the softer UK counterparts.
I know magazines waffled on about the better set up for UK roads, but did they do a true comparison driving?

Dont know but mine definitely has a mind of its own on some roads whether there are potholes and ruts where pipes have been replaced etc. I prefer cars with a stiffer setup but it can get tiring and painful having fillings replaced . Maybe the fact I had 17s on the UK and 18s on the RA also makes a difference. 95% of the roads I travel it doesnt make a huge difference it just one or two where care is need to avoid holes and ruts where I could push on in the UK.

P1s go pop, sti7 Uk have gone pop, UKs have gone pop. EVOs go pop, cossies go pop I have a mate with a diesel and that went pop. It depends on how and if you tune them and what parts and who sets it up, how hard you drive them, how often and where they are serviced, what fuel and oil you use, what air filter you use and if sometimes you are plain unlucky.

Thunder, exactly its a gamble when you buy one of these cars second hand. You just have to hope the folks before have looked after it and knew what they were doing.

A sti type r, my buddy here in cyprus owns a p1, prefers mine sdue to all the extras you dont get on uk spec car. Same performance specs mind but i get a gp n gearbox on top of that.
Other than that 22B is not supposed to be any faster in real road everyday driving!!!!

Out the box for me would be a P1.
Modded would be an STi 5 or 6 with brakes, suspension, engine/box rebuild, turbo, FMIC, ECU, in other words about £15K worth On the other hand, if my box and engine pop, mine would end up like that

With Michelle on this one Chrisp... agree STiUK is on the lively side at low speed. Also found the Suretracs felt different until I got used to them.... felt a bit insecure after my classic. But, when you're used to it I'm confident that its better than P1 for handling UK roads when you're 'making progress'
Never had any exposure to a 22B (don't suppose there's anyone in Kent who'd show me one....???) so can't comment on the overwhelming favourite. But IMHO STiUK/PPP narrowly shades P1 - except for looks!

22B Type UK for the weekend. (if i could aford the cost of a damaged wheel/wing etc i would run one daily)
STi5 Type RA V-Ltd for daily driving and messing about on track.
Yet to drive a fast Fugly, but i hope to try a spec C in January.

Phil I might be wrong but I think Michelle was on about a classic WRX/STI and a P1. I have a classic WRX with full STI suspension and I just feel it is a touch skittish on some roads and real need to driven by the scruff of the neck. My UK was much easier to drive on all road types, had the geometry done but I could of course change the RAs suspension but I like a firm suspension setup. It just some crap british roads which spoil the enjoyment sometimes. Never got chance to drive an STI7 rough B roads so I cant really comment on the diff setup but like anything else you get use to it and learn how to get the best out of it.

22B those wide arches do it for me....
followed closely by TypeR then P1 then MY03STi
as for engines popping, I'd still rather have a 22B that might need a rebuild one day than a standard UKMY98 with a boring "alledgedly more reliable" 215 or so BHP engine.
