Question

Got a stone chip in my windscreen on the way to work this morning - aaargh!!

My insurance company have given me Autoglass's number and informed me I have to pay £50 excess - is this the best way to get the repair/replacement done?

I'd compare prices with some of the other outfits - Auto Windscreens for instance (part of the RAC now I think). A lot of insurers have negotiated special rates with the major repairers(it might be worth checking with yours to make sure they don't have a similar scheme) - it's a damn sight cheaper for the insurance company to cover the cost of a repair rather than replace the whole windscreen.

Go to RAC Autowindscreens for a repair. They will look at it and repair it in about 20 mins if the chip isn't too big. They will invoice your insurance company direct and you pay nothing. If it starts to crack then its no choice but a new screen. I've had 2 chips in my screen done, yes you can see where it was done if you look hard, but only because I know where the original chip was.

Yep RAC autowindscreens. Took my Scoob there and they sorted the chip in about 20mins or so.

As mentioned above take your insurance details with you to prove your insured fully comp and it won't cost you a penny

Had my screen replaced last week. Didn't spot the chip till it was a monster crack. Call me strange but I miss the old one. £25 excess paid to Autoglass.
