MY 97 or 98?
#1
I am now the happy owner of a 1997 R reg Scoob (registered in August), in metallic green with Gold prodrive alloys.
Does anyone know if it'll be a MY97 or MY98? If not, how do I check?
Cheers.

Cheers people, it's the 98 then! Much appreciated. Now to go and get myself some new brake pads (assuming I find a garage with the right locking wheel nut key as mine is missing), so I can stop as quicky as I can go!

Other give away is tweeter thing in the door & the leccy window switches are on arm rest rather than vertical panel for a MY98 if i recall correctly. Seems strange yers is a MY98 in august as i'm sure mine was registered after then but MY97 i could b rong so i shall check although i did initially think it woz a MY98 from the vin no thing compared with SIDC faq list thing but being a turbo 2000 these are of no use so turns out (following discovery of scoobynet & knowledge) that i have but a MY97 Oh well good excuse 2 buy a STi version 4 type R next year (still dreaming )

The SIDC FAQ applied model code list is for the JDM model. The IWOC one isn't though (well the UK applied model code one).

any help in filling the gaps appreciated.

Piston slap was mainly on the the 98 model and some of the late 97. The engine had a slight redesign for the MY99 model aka phase 2 engine.
If I was going to buy a UK spec classic impreza I would go for the 99 model, had a slightly better ecu than the MY00 and had the 4 pots over the MY98 2 pots.
If you are looking at a grey import then the best classic was the MY00 of course .

MY00 WRX Type RA and flew through MOT and still on original MAF . It seem the majority of MAF failures are down to induction kit or non standard panel filters . Pays ya money then ya pays it again .
