Yep mostly down to extra kit. The STI RA V-lims get the roof vent, alcantara seats, air con and electric pack. It really depends on the MY (model year) and the actual model ie STI RA V-lim or WRX RA V-lim.

My advice go for the v-lim model everytime as it has more goodies than the standard model. However the v-lims obviously are more in demand so cost more .

Oh and I havent found one scoob with a ally boot yet if someone tells you it does stick a fridge magnet on it and laugh out loud . The bonnets are ally though.

Worth ringing them but obviously you would need a tracker for Tescos. The sound deadening isnt a big problem you just hear more exhaust note and less stereo. The Type R is very similar but slightly heavier and a two door. The standard STI6 4 door has the longer gear ratios (than the R and RA) which makes it better on motorways. My final ratio is just less than 20mph/1000rpm in 5th ie. :

1000rpm = 20mph
2000rpm = 40mph
3000rpm = 60mph
4000rpm = 80mph
etc....

The normal STI 4 door is about 25mph /1000rpm but someone will confirm or tell me I am wrong .

The short ratios mean the car quick midrange and no lag but it does mena that crusing at motorway speeds can send the oil temperature in excess of 100C very easily.

If you dont do much motorway work then the R and RA are awesome if you do it may not suit you and go for the standard STI6 4door.

Must say I get about 200-220 miles out a tank full about 18mpg average

Hope this helps

ChrisP

As far as i Know the V limited gets bits like electronic diff and air con, elec windows and came in blue met. Where as the normal RA was spared all the toys to save weight.

Question

Ok im confused
I take it you are asking about the STi Type RA V-Ltd and not the STi Type R V-Ltd?
If so then you want to ask someone like John Felstead (hes a moderator on here) as he has an STi5 Type RA V-Ltd and should be able to help you with some of your answers

Hi there i have a STI 6 Type R V-LTD. I can say that there are hardly any differences between V-LTD and and the normal type r appart from the roof vent and the memorable numbered xxxx/1000 plaque on the consloe. The both have diff control. The WRX Type RA is meant to be the subaru which is meant to be bought for rally purposes so it comes with nothing and i mean nothing. Manual everything and no sound deadening. They are meant to be base cars for rally modding but according to a close source they are meant to have a closed deck block.

Does the V-Ltd only come in Sonic blue? I know the type R is available in different colours, also is the handling as good as the 4 door.

Wink

I have a MY00 WRX Type RA V-lim it has as standard :

ally bonnet
light steel boot
sonic blue colour
ally pedal extension
limited edition plaque
blue centre console
blue dials facia surround
no side or rear skirts
air con
abs
electric window x 4
electric mirrors adjuster
electric folding mirrors
blue SWRT alcantara seats
no radio
no speakers
no sound deadening
no roof vent
type RA badge on the back
gold 16" STI wheels
one cat and resonator centre
short ratio gearbox
twin pipe wrx exhaust system

The above spec is from the factory but has a few bits and pieces added/changed now.

The problem with the specials is getting insurnace at a resonable price. Dont set you mind on one without checking the insurance and if they will cover you. Most companies have never heard of a type RA .

Chrisp,

Cheers for the info, does the lack of sound deadening cause any issues. I'm with Tesco at the moment with my EVO and I don't really want to move as I'd loose about 7 months bonus. Perhaps I should look at a Type R or even an Sti6 4-door.

Chrisp,

I take it that the acceleration up to about 100mph is faster in the typr R and RA than the standard Sti? I don't intend on doing too many m-way miles but inevitably there will be some cruising at highish speeds, be it m-way or dual carriage ways.

If u don't mind lack of motorway finesse then buy Evo instead, otherwise Sti saloon gives best of both worlds.

Does anyone have any 'real world' experience of dring the Type R and V-ltd back to back? How do they compare on the road.

My RA has quickrack steering aswell

I drove the a Type-R before my RA, both felt very quick comapared to the tweeked UK car I had before, the RA has a better geared 5th for motorway driving than the R.

There is a noticable jump between 4th and 5th in mine, still picks up very well from low RPM's in 5th though

Only downside of the Type R is the low 5th.... So I had mine changed to the longer 0.738 ratio of the 4 door STI, so got the best of all worlds now....

All great cars, but coupe is the most special...

V5 V-Ltd R gets roof scoop and Sonic Blue paint and.... that's it over the std Type R... AFAIK

in my opinion both the low gear ratio sti's are unsuitable to normal life/road conditions. these cars are designed to be rallied, where speeds rarely exceed 100mph and the surface is loose/wet or snowy.
have had both cars and would not go back to low ratio, thier fun for a while but tiresome over time.

Jonnyese,

Thanks, the's the sort of advice I'm after as you have to live with these cars day in day out.

SCOOBYGAV555- Why do you want to know where I live?

Is there higher gear ratio also a problem in the 2dr P1 too or is this more compliant with motorway driving. I know this has been done to death but P1 or Sti-6

I am lucky enough to have the RA as a sort of second car so all I want is acceleration which is awesome, Having owned a few scoobs I can't really say that I would like to use any as an every day car ....takes the fun out of it.

Darren,

So are you saying your RA would be quicker 0-100 than a P1? I really don't want to get into a mines faster etc..... I just want the facts as I'll be looking to choose between the variants soon.

I would like to think my RA is quicker 0-100 than a P1

0-60 I think has been recorded as 4.2 seconds, the gearing is so short I reckon mine would get to 100 in just over 12.

Anyway's who cares about the figures, I suggest you find a R and RA and a P1 and test drive all 3 and then decide..
