Had a fun night tonight - went back to my MY01 scoob and clicked the remote. Did enough to unlock the car but didn't deactivate the alarm so that went off when I opened the door. Keypad code sorted the alarm, but still couldn't start the car.

Delivered home three hours later on a lowloader courtesy of Subaru Assistance, got out the spare remote and the car started first time...

Funny thing is I've only been using this remote for about a week - it's really the spare. Can the battery go flat if it is just sitting around doing nothing?

Just wondered if new batteries should sort it or will the remote have to go in to the dealer for reprogramming?

Does the remote that wouldn't deactivate the alarm work OK when you got it home? Try it, if it does, it's interference between the fob and the alarm. The dealer should be able to change the alarm ECU under warranty.

If it doesn't work, then it might just need reprogramming.

Unlikely to be the battery unless you were unlucky and got an almost dead one to start with.

Nah - that remote is still dead at home. The red LED flashes when you press the button but that's all.

I think I'll try new batteries first then it's back to the dealer...

btw, the Subaru Assistance folks kept saying these WRX alarms are prone to radio interference, but as far as I know it's the same alarm that was in my MY99 and that ran for three years without a single problem...

My batteries ran out recently after 18 months - however when this happened the red LED also stopped flashing, so yours sounds different.
