The internal boot release (i.e. next to the driver's seat) ist kaput. How do I go about fixing it (I have not checked if the fault is with the release lever or the cable)?

Hi Mate

Open the boot with your key and move the lever on the boot lock to the opposite position you find it in.

Cheers
